Mission and programs · 2022

Mission

ABW helps formerly incarcerated individuals living in Washtenaw County to build stable, successful, and fulfilling lives. We support these returned citizens by forging strong relationships with our mentoring teams, community resources, and committed advocates. The benefits are a richer community, reduced recidivism, and increased public safety.

Activities or mission (Part I)

A Brighter Way ABW helps formerly incarcerated individuals make a successful return to society. Our primary activities to achieve this are mentoring programs, advocacy, and direct support for basic needs.

  • ABW helps formerly incarcerated individuals living in Washtenaw County to build stable, successful, and fulfilling lives. We support these returned citizens by forging strong relationships with our mentoring teams, community resources, and committed advocates. In 2022, we expanded mentoring and housing services, provided rent diversion services, started a program for services and mentoring to elder clients, and started a housing program with McKinley that provided housing to our clients. We also participated in a Resource Fair for returning citizens and established a successful grant-writing committee.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
