Mission and programs · 2023

Mission

The mission of Storybridge is for every child in the Amarillo area to own at least 20 age-appropriate books from birth through elementary school, enters Kindergarten ready to learn to read, and unlocks all the benefits of literacy.

Activities or mission (Part I)

The primary exempt purpose of Storybridge is to provide free books to area children (newborn through elementary age) to help remove the barriers to early literacy.

  • Program to facilitate the Dolly Parton Imagination Library (DPIL). Storybridge helps to enroll children from birth to 5 years old in the DPIL program and then they are eligible to receive one free book every month until the age of 5. Storybridge pays for the books for the children enrolled and manages the input of information in the DPIL data network. In 2023, there were over 7,700 area children who received monthly books through this program.

    Expenses $188,075

  • Storybridge has free book fairs at local Elementary schools and other public community events in Amarillo allowing for the selection of books for school children and their families. During the 2023 year, this program provided self-selected home libraries for over 7,000 children.

    Expenses $73,098

  • The Kinderbridge program was established to provide guided playgroups for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. The program provides free space, crafts, snacks, and instructional items to model reading and creative play that helps to prepare children for kindergarten. This program is provided as a billed service to the local school district's communities. This program is offered 6 times every month with approximately 225 parent/child groups served each month.

    Expenses $58,020 · Revenue $154,000

  • Storybridge provides various community events such as a costume parade and a dream and donate book drive. These programs help to raise public awareness and serve as an opportunity to collect used books for donation at book fairs.

    Expenses $7,823

  • Summer Storytimes consists of approximately 10 events during the summer that provide a learning opportunity to participate in a storytime and craft at different venues throughout the community. In 2023 it provided enrichment for over 200 families a week.

    Expenses $2,343

  • Storybridge little free libraries program builds and establishes little libraries at high need areas and neighborhoods to provide free access to books in an effort to improve early literacy. Storybridge has established 30 little free libraries since the program began in 2019. The libraries provide around 250 books a week to area families.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
