Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.

The filer's explanations (Part III)

Schedule J, Part I, Line 1a
Membership dues for the Duquesne Club, a private club located in Pittsburgh's downtown business district, were paid by MWRIF for Michael Annichine, CEO. The club's facility was used to host Board and Donor meetings and related events.
Schedule J, Part I, Line 3
The Executive Director is dually employed by University of Pittsburgh and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). 100% of his time is spent either on his biomedical research or his executive director responsibilities, so MWRIF is financially responsible for his total compensation. Each of the three organizations are involved in evaluating the ED's compensation, taking into account accomplishments, responsibilities, and comparison to AAMC (American Association of Medical Colleges) benchmarks. The initial salary as well as subsequent adjustments must be approved by senior management of the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC and is also approved by select independent directors of the MWRIF Board. A written employment contract is used by both employers to document all employment terms including compensation. All paperwork regarding the process and approvals is maintained by respective organizations. The CEO's initial salary as well as subsequent adjustments are reviewed by UPMC and select independent directors of the MWRIF Board, taking into consideration qualifications, responsibilities, accomplishments, and a review of salaries for comparable positions in the marketplace. All related paperwork is maintained by UPMC. Since 100% of the CEO's time is spent in supporting the mission of MWRIF, MWRIF is responsible for the entire salary and any subsequent adjustments and incentives.
Schedule J, Part I, Line 7
In addition to a base compensation from each employer, Dr. Sadovsky is eligible for incentive compensation as follows: A) UPMC-he is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation as part of his employment contract. Performance is evaluated against a list of predetermined goals and payment is made is the subsequent fiscal year. B) University of Pittsburgh- he is eligible for a research incentive based on certain criteria established by the University for all researchers. This is tied to his own research lab and is not related to his function as Executive Director of MWRIF. Pamela Moalli, Gerald Schatten, Sharon Hillier, Kyle Orwig, and Hyagriv Simhan are also eligible for the University of Pittsburgh research incentive mentioned above. The CEO, as an executive-level employee of UPMC, is eligible for an annual incentive award based on performance against predetermined standards which include their contribution to achievement of corporate goals, as well as achievement of individual performance goals. MWRIF is financially responsible for the entire cost of the incentives.

Part I's answers as filed. A line not listed was left unanswered; on lines 1a and 3 that means the box was not checked.
