Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.

SCHEDULE J, PART I, LINE 6 & 7
THE UNIVERSITY'S SCHOOL OF MEDICINE IS ORGANIZED INTO MAJOR DEPARTMENTS. EACH DEPARTMENT HAS A FACULTY COMPENSATION PLAN THAT PROVIDES GUIDELINES TO THE CHAIR OF THE DEPARTMENT FOR SETTING ANNUAL COMPENSATION OF THE INDIVIDUAL FACULTY MEMBERS. ONE OF THE FIVE HIGHEST COMPENSATED EMPLOYEES LISTED IN PART VII, SECTION A OF THE FORM 990 IS FACULTY IN A DEPARTMENT THAT HAD SALARIES DETERMINED UNDER DEPARTMENTAL GUIDELINES THAT PROVIDE FOR BASE SALARIES THAT ARE FIXED PAYMENTS. IN THESE DEPARTMENTS, HOWEVER, THERE ARE ELEMENTS OF COMPENSATION UNDER THE GUIDELINES THAT ARE NOT FIXED PAYMENTS OR DETERMINED BY FIXED FORMULA. THE CHAIR OF THE DEPARTMENT DETERMINES, IN FULL OR IN PART, THE AMOUNT OF THIS ELEMENT BASED ON THE EMPLOYEE'S PERFORMANCE. FURTHER, THERE IS AN ELEMENT EXPRESSED AS A PERCENT OF NET SURPLUS GENERATED BY THE EFFORTS OF THE EMPLOYEE. THE UNIVERSITY'S CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER, DEPUTY CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER, MANAGING DIRECTORS OF INVESTMENTS, AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT ALSO RECEIVE A PAYMENT BASED ON THE NET EARNINGS OF AN ACTIVITY OF THE UNIVERSITY USING A FIXED FORMULA. SEE DISCUSSION OF PART I, LINE 7 BELOW FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
SCHEDULE J, PART I, LINE 7
THE CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER, DEPUTY CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER, MANAGING DIRECTORS OF INVESTMENTS, AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER OF INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT COMPENSATION ARRANGEMENTS PROVIDE FOR BOTH FIXED BASE COMPENSATION AND INCENTIVE COMPENSATION, MOST OF WHICH IS BASED ON THE PERFORMANCE OF THE UNIVERSITY'S INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO RELATIVE TO PRE-ESTABLISHED PEER AND MARKET BENCHMARKS. THE ANNUAL INCENTIVE PLAN IS COMPRISED OF THREE COMPONENTS: TWO OF WHICH ARE BASED UPON A FIXED FORMULA AND ONE WHICH IS BASED ON QUALITATIVE FACTORS. FOR THE DEPUTY CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER, MANAGING DIRECTORS, AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, THE LATTER IS DETERMINED AT THE DISCRETION OF THE INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT COMPANY'S GOVERNING BOARD UNDER AUTHORITY ASSIGNED BY THE UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO OVERSEE MANAGEMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY'S ENDOWMENT. THE CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER'S INCENTIVES PACKAGE IS RECOMMENDED BY THE INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT COMPANY'S GOVERNING BOARD, THEN THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE APPROVES THE PACKAGE ACTING ON BEHALF OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES. OTHER OFFICERS HAVE AGREEMENTS THAT CONTAIN INCENTIVE COMPENSATION COMPONENTS WHICH ARE AWARDED BASED ON SPECIFICALLY IDENTIFIED GOALS OR OVERALL PERFORMANCE, AS DETERMINED BY THE CHANCELLOR. OTHER NON-FIXED BONUS PAYMENTS MAY BE AWARDED TO OFFICERS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CHANCELLOR. THE MAXIMUM TOTAL PAYOUT OF BONUSES DURING THE YEAR IS APPROVED BY THE COMPENSATION COMMITTEE.
SCHEDULE J, PART I, LINE 8
