Mission and programs · 2025
Mission
Ciencia Puerto Rico is a global community of >15,000 scientists, students, educators and allies who understand that science can empower people with the knowledge, capacity and agency to improve their lives and society. Through our programs, we promote the civic engagement of our rich and diverse community to democratize science, transform science education and professional development, and put science in service of Puerto Rico.
Activities or mission (Part I)
Ciencia Puerto Rico connects a diverse community of scientists, students, educators and community members to build collaborative, culturally grounded pathways for generating and applying scientific knowledge to solve Puerto Rico's most pressing challenges. Our vision is a society where people and communities use the tools of science everyday to potentiate their capacity to lead and transform their realities. We design and strengthen a culturally grounded and science-driven ecosystem that transforms how knowledge is produced and shared-recognizing that science emerges not only from institutions, but also from communities. By building pathways for leadership through learning, mentorship and collaboration, we enhance how science is taught, communicated, and lived in Puerto Rico. The work of Ciencia Puerto Rico is organized into the following three units: 1) The Science Education Unit; 2) The Public Participation in Science Unit & 3) The Scientific Talent and Leadership Unit.

Seeds of Success (Semillas de Triunfo) We offer a hybrid curriculum for 120 7th through 9th grade students per year, focused on career exploration, role models, and leadership development. -
Science Communication Lab (Ciencia CoLab) We support community leaders in applying the process of science and design for projects born from their local needs and priorities. CienciaCoLab starts from co-creation, participatory design, and the recognition that leaders and their communities possess unique knowledge, resources, and experiences that, when combined with science, can enhance their work and impact.

Scientists at Service (Científicos al Servicio) This program has three components: 1) We facilitate school visits by STEM experts who are professionals and advanced students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, to increase students' interest and self-efficacy in science, through talks, experiments, mentorship, and educational resources. 2) We inspire middle and high school students through the online Scientists in Service speaker series, which presents the career paths and work of diverse experts and role models in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and related fields.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
