  • Child Life Fundación Hospital Pediátrico's Unique Role: Supporting Community, Elevating Health Fundación Hospital Pediátrico has long recognized the need for holistic programs that address health disparities and improve physical and mental health outcomes for children in Puerto Rico. The Child Life program, an essential component of the multidisciplinary teams of most pediatric hospitals, is one example of such a program. Through collaborative interdisciplinary practice and education, Child Life specialists work to advance patients' emotional, social, and cognitive growth and minimize adverse effects as a result of a hospital visit or other medical procedures, taking into consideration each patient's family, culture, and developmental needs. FHP created a social-emotional support program to offer children at Hospital Pediatrico emotional support services to address and overcome psychosocial challenges related to hospitalizations and medical procedures. Currently, there is two certified Child Life therapists, one trauma specialist assistant with certification in recreational therapy, one assistant in the process of certification in cognitive neuroscience applied to mindfulness, one music therapist, and one psychologist who provides workshops once a week for caregivers for a total of 4,500 interventions with an average of three interventions performed per patient. While there are over 400 Child Life programs in the United States and Canada, there are only two Child Life specialists and no known established Child Life Programs in Puerto Rico.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
