Mission and programs · 2022

Mission

To improve the experiences and lives of African Americans in Minnesota by building a network of leaders and institutions that convenes, collaborates, and champions solutions.

Activities or mission (Part I)

The African American Leadership Forum is a collective of institutions and individuals that serves as a community innovation accelerator. AALF empowers Black communities to imagine and create an equitable future for themselves. The organization's ultimate goal is to manifest a world in which Black excellence thrives in all its forms, through breakthrough collaboration and coordinated action. With opinion research, design solutions and discourse-based action AALF advances racial equity through a Black Agenda For Change in Minnesota and beyond. Its focus areas are community prosperity, criminal justice, climate justice, public education, health and generational wealth. Through the cultural lens of Afrofuturism, AALF centers the rich heritage of its ancestors while embracing the unlimited potential of tomorrow. It strives to inspire innovation and spark imagination.

  • African American Leadership Forum (AALF, the Organization) converts research-based thought on social issues into action-oriented agenda and solutions, which address the fundamental causes of racial injustice. Our solutions are aimed to impact the areas of economic prosperity, generational wealth building, public health, education, criminal justice, and climate justice. Our goal is to end racial injustice in all its forms in Minnesota. To achieve that, we utilize data science research, discourse-driven gatherings, design innovation, and strategic community engagement. The primary focus areas of the work fall into the following focus areas determined to impact daily aspects of Black Minnesotan's lives: * Education - By advocating for a statewide system that reflects educational parity for every student, at every school. * Public Health - Reimagining the statewide healthcare structure to provide equal quality care with equal access to all Black people by removing the systemic barricades to equitable, affordable life-saving care. * Criminal Justice - Championing a fair and equal criminal justice system for all individuals. * Economic Prosperity - Reimagining systems so that economic growth, security, and financial well-being are reachable for all Black Minnesotans. * Climate Justice - We are advocating solutions that address the climate crisis and in turn address many social, racial, and environmental injustices. * Generation Wealth Building - We want to ensure financial wealth is consistently passed down by Black families from one generation to the other.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
