PROVIDES MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES TO VETERANS, SERVICE MEMBERS, AND FAMILIES CONNECTED TO THE CARE.
-
THE HEADSTRONG PROJECT IS A NON-PROFIT MENTAL HEALTH ORGANIZATION PROVIDING CONFIDENTIAL, BARRIER-FREE, AND STIGMA-FREE TRAUMA-FOCUSED TREATMENT TO ALL ERAS OF SERVICE MEMBERS, VETERANS, AND THEIR FAMILIES (SMVF) CONNECTED TO THEIR CARE, REGARDLESS OF DISCHARGE STATUS. HEADSTRONG ADDRESSES THE MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES FACED BY THOSE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED TRAUMA BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER SERVICE. OUR GOAL IS TO HELP OUR CLIENTS "TRIUMPH OVER TRAUMA" BY PROVIDING THEM WITH EFFECTIVE MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT. HEADSTRONG'S NETWORK OF CLINICAL TRAUMA SPECIALISTS OFFERS INDIVIDUALIZED, EVIDENCE-BASED, TRAUMA-FOCUSED, OUTPATIENT CARE TO OUR CLIENTS. SINCE ITS INCEPTION, HEADSTRONG HAS PROVIDED MORE THAN 225,000 CLINICAL SESSIONS TO MORE THAN 6,000 INDIVIDUALS IN OUR CARE.IN 2012, THE HEADSTRONG PROJECT (HEADSTRONG) WAS FOUNDED BY U.S. MARINE CAPTAIN ZACH ISCOL, AL RABIL, CEO, KAYNE ANDERSON, AND DAVE PETRUCCO, CO-FOUNDER AND MANAGING PARTNER AT BACKCAST PARTNERS. AS A MARINE, ZACH SERVED TWO TOURS IN IRAQ AND LED HIS MARINE UNIT AND IRAQI SOLDIERS IN SOME OF THE HEAVIEST FIGHTING OF THE IRAQ WAR DURING THE SECOND BATTLE OF FALLUJAH. UPON RETURNING HOME, HE BECAME ALL TOO FAMILIAR WITH THE SCARS OF WAR AND THE RESULTS OF PTSD AS HE LOST MANY OF HIS FELLOW MARINES WHO DID NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES THEY NEEDED. ZACH SHARED HIS STORY WITH AL AND DAVE, AND ALL FELT THE CALL TO DO MORE. IN A PARTNERSHIP WITH WEILL CORNELL MEDICINE, HEADSTRONG WAS BORN. IN 2021, HEADSTRONG RESTRUCTURED FOR GROWTH BY BRINGING MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES IN-HOUSE, PROVIDING VISIBILITY AND CONTROL ACROSS ALL LINES OF OPERATIONS - CLINICAL, BUSINESS, AND DEVELOPMENT. ACROSS THE NATION, THE DEMAND FOR MENTAL HEALTH CARE SERVICES FROM THE SMVF COMMUNITY EXCEEDS THE CAPACITY OF THE VA AND DOD, AND MANY COMMUNITY-BASED PROVIDERS LACK THE EXPERTISE AND RESOURCES TO PROVIDE QUALITY CARE TAILORED TO THE MILITARY COMMUNITY. LONG WAIT TIMES AND DIFFICULTY ACCESSING STIGMA-FREE, CULTURALLY COMPETENT CARE UNDERSCORE THE NEED FOR HEADSTRONG'S MODEL OF CARE. HEADSTRONG OPERATES IN WASHINGTON, D.C., AND 18 STATES: ARIZONA, CALIFORNIA, COLORADO, FLORIDA, GEORGIA, IDAHO, ILLINOIS, MARYLAND, MONTANA, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, NORTH CAROLINA, OHIO, OREGON, PENNSYLVANIA, TEXAS, VIRGINIA, AND WASHINGTON. OUR CLINICAL PARTNER NETWORK COMPRISES OVER 300 PROFESSIONALS, INCLUDING PSYCHOLOGISTS, LICENSED CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKERS, COUNSELORS, AND PSYCHIATRISTS. ADDITIONALLY, DUE TO MULTISTATE LICENSURE, TELEHEALTH SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE IN ALL 50 STATES TO ACCOMMODATE CLIENTS WHO MOVE AFTER STARTING TREATMENT IN ONE OF OUR 18 CORE STATES.HEADSTRONG PROVIDES EVIDENCE-BASED TRAUMA-FOCUSED PSYCHOTHERAPY TO SMVF REGARDLESS OF DISCHARGE STATUS. INFORMED BY CLINICAL PRACTICE GUIDELINES, HEADSTRONG THERAPISTS OFFER THE THREE LEADING PTSD TREATMENTS: COGNITIVE PROCESSING THERAPY (CPT), EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITIZATION AND REPROCESSING (EMDR), AND PROLONGED EXPOSURE (PE). OUR CLIENTS HAVE BENEFITED FROM THIS APPROACH. IN THE PAST YEAR, WE PROVIDED MORE THAN 44,000 INDIVIDUAL SESSIONS, RESPONDING TO OUR CLIENTS' DIVERSE NEEDS WITH COMPASSION AND EXPERTISE. WHAT SETS HEADSTRONG APART IS OUR EXCEPTIONAL CLIENT RETENTION RATE, WITH 97% OF CLIENTS RETURNING FOR TREATMENT AFTER THEIR FIRST SESSION. FURTHERMORE, HEADSTRONG'S IMPACT EXTENDS BEYOND ENGAGEMENT, AS EVIDENCED BY THE FACT THAT MORE THAN 55% OF CLIENTS WHO RECEIVED THREE OR MORE SESSIONS EXPERIENCED MEANINGFUL DECLINES IN PTSD SYMPTOMS.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
