Activities or mission (Part I)
C.A.R.E.4Paws' mission is to reduce pet overpopulation and improve pet family welfare on California's Central Coast.
-
Since its founding in 2009, C.A.R.E.4Paws has stayed committed to reducing pet overpopulation and improving pet family welfare on California's Central Coast. The organization supports low-income, senior, disabled and unhoused pet families in underserved communities of Santa Barbara County and, as of 2022, in San Luis Obispo (SLO) County. In 2023, more than 25,000 pet families received services. C.A.R.E.4Paws' largest program is its Mobile Community Medicine and Spay/Neuter Outreach, which supports pet families in need with critical pet wellness services. This includes free and low-cost spays/ neuters, veterinary care and vaccine clinics. C.A.R.E.4Paws operates out of CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE Otwo mobile veterinary units, a 26-foot clinic and a brand-new, 37-foot unit launched in August 2023.In 2023, C.A.R.E.4Paws' mobile clinic team assisted 17,500 pets total, compared to 13,000 in 2022 and 7,000 in 2020.The organization's Companion Pet Assistance program continued to provide several tons of pet food weekly in 2023, supporting families struggling financially. C.A.R.E.4Paws has distributed more than four million pet meals since the start of the pandemic.Additionally, C.A.R.E.4Paws continued to assist pet families exposed to domestic violence through Safe Haven and provided humane education through Paws Up For Pets with the goal to inspire kindness for all living beings.Every year, C.A.R.E.4Paws strengthens relationships with existing partners and builds new partnerships to expand its reach into the community. At the end of 2023, the organization agreed to absorb a nonprofit collaborator in SLO County, Animals In Need Fund, to operate under C.A.R.E.4Paws' umbrella of programs. In 2023, the organization received a four-year Access to Care grant from PetSmart Charities to assist pet families in Oceano. Only 10 nonprofits in the United States were selected for this grant. Also, as C.A.R.E.4Paws has expanded its services for unhoused pet families, the organization entered into a partnership with Street Dog Coalition. In 2024, C.A.R.E.4Paws' services for the unsheltered expanded even further through a collaboration with Good Samaritan Shelter and Dignity Moves. Through this partnership, C.A.R.E.4Paws provides wellness services, food, supplies, as well as pet and staff training to unhoused families moving into pet-friendly shelter facilities.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
