Activities or mission (Part I)
HELPAGE USA ADVANCES THE WELL-BEING AND INCLUSION OF OLDER PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD.
-
1.HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE HELPAGE USA SUPPORTED OLDER PEOPLE WHOSE LIVES HAVE BEEN IMPACTED BY THE WAR IN UKRAINE AND HUMANITARIAN CRISES IN ETHIOPIA, MOLDOVA, VENEZUELA, TURKEY AND MOROCCO. ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED IN THE FORM OF SPECIALLY TAILORED FOOD PACKAGES AND CLEAN WATER; HYGIENE KITS, ASSISTIVE DEVICES AND OTHER ESSENTIALS TO KEEP THEM SAFE; MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT AND COUNSELING; CLEAN WATER AND HYGIENE FACILITIES, AS WELL AS AGE INCLUSION SPECIALISTS TO ADVOCATE FOR THEIR NEEDS. HELPAGE USA ALSO EDUCATED US GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, CONGRESS, AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS ABOUT THE NEED FOR STRONGER INCLUSION OF OLDER PEOPLE IN HUMANITARIAN ACTION.
Expenses $948,375 · Grants $842,572
-
2.HEALTHY AGING HELPAGE USA LAUNCHED A PILOT OF FRIENDSHIP BENCH DC WHICH ENABLES OLDER PEOPLE TO ADDRESS THE MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS IN THEIR COMMUNITY. HELPAGE USA PROVIDED EXTENSIVE TRAINING IN EMPATHIC LISTENING AND PROBLEM-SOLVING THERAPY SO THEY CAN SUPPORT PEOPLE OF ALL AGES WHO NEED A LISTENING EAR. FRIENDSHIP BENCHES WILL BE SET UP AT HOST PARTNERS IN UNDERSERVED AREAS SO THAT MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT IS FREE, ACCESSIBLE, AND CULTURALLY RELEVANT TO THOSE WHO NEED IT. IN COLLABORATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, HELPAGE USA CONDUCTED STAKEHOLDER RESEARCH TO DETERMINE IF A SUCCESSFUL FINANCIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR OLDER WOMEN IN ASIA COULD WORK IN THE US.
Expenses $141,095
-
3.POLICY, EDUCATION, AND GLOBAL NETWORK SUPPORT: HELPAGE USA SUPPORTS HELPAGE GLOBAL NETWORK MEMBERS AND AMPLIFIES THE VOICES OF OLDER PEOPLE IN LOW- AND MIDDLE-INCOME COUNTRIES. WE DO THIS BY BUILDING AWARENESS AMONG KEY US AUDIENCES OF HOW OLDER PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED BY HUMANITARIAN CRISES, A LACK OF INCOME AND AGE-APPROPRIATE HEALTH CARE, VULNERABILITY TO VIOLENCE AND ABUSE, AND THE NEED TO ENSURE THAT OLDER PEOPLE HAVE A VOICE IN DEBATES ABOUT POLICIES THAT IMPACT THEM.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
