Mission and programs · 2022
Mission
Whose Knowledge? is a global multilingual campaign to center on the internet the histories, knowledges, leadership, design, and imaginations of the minoritised majority of the world - minoritized and marginalized by historical and ongoing structures of power and privilege. We practice as a feminist anti-oppressions collective striving towards shared liberations through knowledge justice, led by Black and brown women and trans folks from and in the communities and movements we serve, particularly of the Global South and Global Majority.
-
Communications-Challenging Big Knowledge and centering our communities through radical communications work, including publishing our own multimodal resources and reports, sharing our epistemic practices in peer reviewed journals and speaking at critical knowledge (including universities, GLAM organizations, publishers, open knowledge spaces) and technology forums.
Expenses $214,497
-
Whose Digital Archives-Activities 2022 Expanded Decolonizing the Archives team at Whose Knowledge? Focused strongly on the intersections and innovations of Black Archival Practice and Black Digital Practice. Led conversation about digital challenges with liberatory archives and made meaningful contributions to transnational archives spaces. Continuing to develop and articulate our vision and strategy for archives, and integrating it with other programs.
Expenses $137,029
-
Decolonizing the Internet-Activities 2022 Along with African Womens Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) we organized Decolonizing The Internet convening of 40 feminists, activists, technologists, artists, scholars, knowledge professionals and digital curators from across the East-African region in Lusaka, Zambia. We held authentic and deeply thoughtful conversations and reflections on decolonizing the internet, leveraging critical feminist scholarship, human rights activism, and knowledge of internet technologies, community organizing, and partnerships ahead of the Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa (FIFAfrica 2022). As in previous DTI conferences, we hosted an invite-only convening for our communities before a major public event. This strategy proved to be successful once again, allowing our community to continue the conversations we previously had in a smaller and safe space, in the bigger and mainstream one (FIFAfrica).

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
