Mission and programs · 2024
Mission
Our mission is to encourage a diverse population of high-need young people to explore their full potential through academic, career, family, and community life. Every year, CYC impacts over 8,000 San Francisco youth and their families, 2,000 of which are on a weekly basis during academic year, through programs on 3 core areas: health and wellness (behavioral health & physical fitness), enrichment and advancement (education & workforce development), and community engagement (community/school-based education & leadership development).
-
Workforce Development programs - help young job seekers build the skills necessary to achieve economic self-sufficiency. These programs support skills development and career exploration through job readiness training, placement workshops, internships, numeracy and literacy support, technology and computer skills training.
Expenses $3,965,066
-
Community Outreach programs - connect with Asian and Pacific Islander (API) youth and families who may face cultural and language barriers and other challenges. We work in underserved neighborhoods across San Francisco, including Bayview, Chinatown, Excelsior, Richmond, and the Tenderloin, to provide referrals and resource linkages, support access to social benefits, educational presentations, and community-building events. Our outreach also includes skill-building opportunities and support groups, along with sports and enrichment activities in partnership with local schools. Through our Community Safety and Justice Program, CYC provides victim support and case management, multilingual community safety workshops, and outreach along commercial corridors. We also organize neighborhood events that support API communities and build cross-racial partnerships with other communities across San Francisco.
Expenses $3,915,278
-
Education Enrichment programs - provide extended learning and interpersonal growth opportunities for youth through hands-on experiences that go beyond the classroom. Our enrichment activities encourage young people to explore new interests while building practical life skills such as teamwork, independence, and leadership. We support students in grades K12 with academic assistance, structured fitness, recreation, and skill-based enrichment. We also support newcomer youth as they build academic skills, strengthen social and emotional learning, and stay on track to complete high school requirements in preparation for college or post-secondary pathways. In addition, our full-day summer programs help students practice and strengthen the skills and lessons they learned during the school year.
Expenses $3,592,762
-
Leadership Development programs - foster civic and community engagement through youth-led and youth-driven events and activities that enhance knowledge and increase awareness of community issue
Expenses $2,885,591
-
Behavioral Health programs - provide case management and individual family therapy for youth aged 11-21. Our clinicians and case managers conduct psychosocial assessments and address mental health stigma, limited access to linguistically and culturally appropriate services, and cofactors such as violence, chronic truancy, and substance abuse. We also provide parenting classes, stress relief classes, the Strengthening Families Program, and parent appreciation events and activities for promoting the health and wellbeing of parents.
Expenses $1,231,498
-
Intervention programs - support high-risk and at-risk youth and families through crisis intervention, information, linkages, mental health referrals, individual and family counseling, parenting classes, case management services, court advocacy, conflict intervention, support groups, and linkages to culturally appropriate wraparound services.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
