Mission and programs · 2024
Mission
Ensure the economic viability and sustainability of the Napa Valley appellation through marketing, promotional, educational and training programs, work on critical industry issues, and enhance the well-being of the Napa County Community.
-
Domestic Marketing supports the Organization's overall vision and goals by marketing and promoting the Napa Valley Appellation in the United States. This consists of strategic positioning (branding) of the Napa Valley Appellation and program activities that serve members domestic needs.
-
International Marketing includes all marketing and promotional activities conducted in support of wine exports to foreign markets. Certain International Program expenditures qualify for reimbursement under federal grants. As fiscal agent for the Organization, The Wine Institute and the United States Department of Agriculture Commodity Credit Corporation funds these disbursements and collects the corresponding government funding. The remaining International Program expenses are paid by the Organization and are partially funded through member program fees and dues.
-
Member Relations handles issues relating to member communications, member involvement and member satisfaction. The Member Relations department organizes workshops on topics of interest that are held throughout the year. In addition, the department also organizes general members meetings and social events, including the annual meeting and the vintage celebration.
-
The communications department directs the communications, public relations and media relations strategies for the Organization. Innovative programming ideas to promote and protect the Napa Valley Appellation and fulfill the mission of the Organization are developed and executed in conjunction with vintner members and industry partners. Program areas of interest include media relations, web site content development, public relations, and member and industry communications.
-
The Name Protection department comprises the Organization's efforts to protect the Napa Name. This includes both domestic and international efforts. Also under the general auspices of this department is the Napa Name Protection Committee that monitors labeling and appellation issues.
-
The community outreach department promotes the activities, events, issues and strategies of the Organization to the local community. Activities include the Adopt a School Program, Napa Neighbor, Afternoon in the Vineyards, and numerous presentations to local community groups.
-
The Industry Issues department handles issues relating to the wine industry. Legal, environmental and social issues are some of the broad topics that fall under this department. It is this department that also pro-actively addresses projects that may be beneficial to the Napa Valley wine industry or its larger community.
-
Appellation Marketing supports the Organization's marketing goals by developing marketing educational materials (digital and analog) to support trade, media, and consumer programs world-wide.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
