Mission
The Museum inspires wonder, discovery, and stewardship of our natural world. The Museum is a catalyst for conservation and a valued learning resource, facilitating active scientific and historical inquiry for all ages.
Activities or mission (Part I)
The Museum Foundation operates the Museum through a successful public-private partnership with the City of Pacific Grove and serves as a hub for scientific and historical learning for over 50,000 people each year through exhibitions, education programs, and community events.
-
Exhibitions: Since its beginning in 1883, the Museum has excelled at teaching the public about the natural world through a variety of exhibitions displaying monarch butterflies, local birds and wildlife, geology and cultural artifacts to name a few. This year the Museum opened the permanent exhibit: "Wonder". The Museum hosted 3 special exhibits including the Chinese Historical Society of America exhibit, Call to Rise: Chinese Americans in CBI, Illustrating Nature and Strange Animals.
Expenses $658,707 · Revenue $48,472
-
Education: The Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History's Education programs include free school field trips, free Science Saturdays (offered 9 times per year) and hands-on community science opportunities for all ages. Outdoor science education includes LiMPETS (Long Term Monitoring Program and Experimental Training for Students) and Watershed Guardians, which offered watershed education field trips. This year the Museum offered adult learner courses, PreK Curiosity Club and a middle school and teen program. Over 10,000 students participate in the Museum's programs each year.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
