Activities or mission (Part I)

THE MVA WORKS TO IMPROVE ELECTION TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY THROUGH LEGAL ACTION AND TO EDUCATE CITIZENS ON ELECTION MATTERS.

  • ON JANUARY 5, 2025, THE MINNESOTA VOTERS ALLIANCE (MVA) INITIATED LEGAL ACTION AGAINST GOVERNOR TIM WALZ OVER ISSUING AN ILLEGAL AND PREMATURE WRIT OF SPECIAL ELECTION. (MINNESOTA VOTERS ALLIANCE V. WALZ)IN A MAJOR VICTORY FOR ELECTION INTEGRITY, THE SUPREME COURT GRANTED MVA'S PETITION, CANCELLED GOVERNOR WALZ'S WRIT AND THE PLANNED JANUARY 28, 2025, SPECIAL ELECTION FOR THE VACANT SEAT. WALZ WAS FORCED TO CALL ANOTHER SPECIAL ELECTION. THIS VICTORY NOT ONLY ENSURED A LAWFUL SPECIAL ELECTION BUT ALSO SET AN IMPORTANT PRECEDENT FOR FUTURE ELECTORAL DISPUTES. ADVOCATED FOR CITIZENS TO BECOME ELECTION JUDGES, BALLOT BOARD MEMBERS AND POLL CHALLENGERS, AND ENCOURAGED VOTER PARTICIPATION IN SCHOOL BOARD ELECTIONS.THE MVA WAS ASKED TO PROVIDE ANALYSIS OF HOUSE AND SENATE ELECTION OMNIBUS BILLS AND PROVIDE WRITTEN INPUT TO THE CONFERENCE COMMITTEE ON ELECTIONS. MVA FILED LAWSUIT CHALLENGING A NEW ELECTIONS PROVISION IN FEDERAL COURT THAT RESTRICTS FREE SPEECH AROUND ELECTION RELATED ISSUES. OUR APPEAL TO THE 8TH CIRCUIT WAS HEARD IN OCTOBER 2025. BY DEFENDING THE RIGHT TO SPEAK FREELY ABOUT ELECTIONS, MVA AIMS TO PRESERVE AN OPEN MARKETPLACE OF IDEAS AND SUPPORT INFORMED PARTICIPATION IN THE DEMOCRATIC PROCESS.MVA WAS INVITED TO SEVERAL SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS ACROSS THE STATE THAT FOCUSED ON EDUCATING CITIZENS IMPROVING ELECTION TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY. CONTINUED RESEARCH ON THE VARIOUS LAWS/RULES REGARDING EARLY VOTING TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ON HOW MINNESOTA'S EARLY VOTING SYSTEMS ARE BEING ADMINISTERED.

The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
