Mission and programs · 2024
Mission
Rebuilding Together Houston is the only organization in Houston and Harris County providing free home repairs to hundreds of families each year. We employ licensed contractors to restore homes to safe, livable conditions, extending each home's life by 20 years or more and protecting families from hazards like leaking roofs, collapsing floors, dangerous electrical systems, no hot water, and lack of heating, or air conditioning. For the cost of building one brand new home, Rebuilding Together Houston can repair up to 12. Over the past 43 years, we have served more than 15,000 neighbors at no cost. Our work enhances the safety and structural integrity of homes passed down through generations, helping preserve Houston's neighborhood character by keeping families in the communities they helped to build.
Activities or mission (Part I)
Repairing Homes. Revitalizing Communities. Rebuilding Lives.
-
The Construction Program encompasses work performed under the City of Houston's Master Contractor Agreement. The Housing and Community Development Department selects projects and defines the scope of work, which Rebuilding Together Houston bids for and executes upon winning. This program also provides specialized services for Veterans, ensuring homes are restored to safe, healthy conditions that protect them from future disasters. Homes for Veterans may also undergo significant modifications to enhance living conditions, particularly for service-disabled homeowners.
Expenses $1,380,152
-
The Community Revitalization program focuses on targeted home restoration within specific neighborhoods. Since 2019, RTH has concentrated efforts in the East End, a historically underserved Hispanic area that includes Second Ward, one of Houston's original neighborhoods established in 1839. Homes are restored to safe and healthy conditions, resilient against future disasters. Contractors handle essential repairs and volunteers often contribute to exterior improvements.
Expenses $1,211,382
-
The Disaster Relief program returns homes to a safe and healthy condition that protects them against future disasters. Industrial hygienists inspect homes to identify potential mold exposures and occupant risks, and provide recommendations for remediation.
Expenses $646,188

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
