Mission and programs · 2024
Mission
To create, foster, and resource new models for safety and justice outside the punishment system. We work with people impacted by the punishment system to promote a holistic view of safety that encompasses physical, emotional, and economic health and wellness; cultivate the next generation of community leaders; and build community-based solutions.
Activities or mission (Part I)
We are creating new models for justice and safety outside of Arizona's punishment system.

We completed another Community Safety Incubator Project which included a gathering to bring residents of the complex and their unhoused neighbors together. We then worked with the Community Safety Team to add soft wood chips as bedding underneath a play structure in the complex, and threw an after school party for neighborhood children. A new project in Arroyo Chico neighborhood launched on November 2, 2024 with a community cleanup and beautification event. We have done extensive outreach with the neighborhood school and we invited students and families to join us for the painting of the community mural. In total, we've invested over $11,000 into Tucson neighborhoods through Incubator Projects We awarded Justice Reinvestment grants to six Maricopa County nonprofits, totaling $175,000 in funding. Over the first 3 quarters of 2024, these 6 organizations have served 2,448 individuals Our subgrantees have reported impressive outcomes: RE:Frame Youth Arts Collective: 25% increase in neighborhood activities and events, 70% report feeling more connected Unlimited Potential: Participants in Community Therapy Wheels reported 85% report feeling more connected, 100% report Increased sense of well being BlackNet: 25% increased participation in community activities or events Father Matters enrolled 235 people in their program AZRSOL hosted a total of 18 support groups in Tucson and Phoenix and a statewide conference on rational sex offense sentencing laws DPAA provided books to 23 people on Death Row in Arizona-20% of the population

In 2024, our Expungement Advocates engaged in a more than 1520 outreach activities (flyering, street outreach, or presentations). In total, they reached over 2,000 individual contacts. We partnered with Hey Joe Media to produce two short videos featuring formerly incarcerated individuals talking about their experiences of losing and then regaining (or not) the right to vote. We timed the release to coincide with the 2024 election to capitalize on the attention being paid to the campaigns and highlight the issue of disenfranchisement. The videos then direct people to Reclaim Your Future to begin the process of having their rights restored. The videos were disseminated via social media and shared with other partners. We also paid for a 30 day ad campaign on YouTube.

Our pilot incubator project produced encouraging results. Survey responses confirm that participants in the incubator mirror the makeup of the neighborhood. The majority (nearly 70%) were BIPOC. The majority of respondents (56%) have been personally impacted by the criminal punishment system. The reported impacts were overwhelmingly positive: 88% said the project made them feel safer in their neighborhood 75% said it helped them get to know their neighbors better 87.6% said the project would contribute to greater health and wellness

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
