Mission
In community partnership with UC Berkeley, SOAR helps Bay Area foster youth aged 11-21 move through adolescence and into their adult lives with independence. We teach, coach, and counsel our young people in academics, leadership, life skills, and emotional intelligence. We provide them with activities that build trust, promote teamwork, and enhance self-esteem. The SOAR program aims to help our young people graduate from high school, attend college, and succeed in life with purpose.
-
Summer Precollegiate Academics: In 2024 SOAR added one additional week to our Fourth Academy: SOAR to Your Future. Week one, SOAR To College, was intended to help our young attendees prepare for, apply to, and succeed in college. Week two, SOAR To Vocation, was intended to provide opportunities and exposure to our youths who may not find themselves on a path to a college degree. The roll-out was a huge success. Prepare To SOAR, Learn To SOAR, and Time To SOAR Academy for our 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd- Year students respectively were also life-changing. All Academy participates (100%) said they would recommend SOAR to other foster youth.Sixty seven (67) foster youths attended the summer academies in 2024.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
