Activities or mission (Part I)
THE MISSION OF THE FOOD BANK IS TO EDUCATE, PROVIDE NUTRITIOUS FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY, AND RESPOND TO EMERGENCIES. THE KAUAI INDEPENDENT FOOD BANK PROMOTES AND FULFILLS ITS PURPOSE BY DISTRIBUTING LARGE QUANTITIES OF FOOD TO COMMUNITY RESOURCES, INDIVIDUALS, AND THOSE WHO ARE IN NEED OF EMERGENCY RELIEF
-
THE KAUAI INDEPENDENT FOOD BANK (KIFB) UTILIZES GRANT REVENUES, DONATIONS, AND FOOD DRIVES TO PROVIDE NUTRITIOUS FOOD FOR THE HUNGRY PEOPLE OF KAUAI. KIFB DOES THIS THROUGH OUR FOUR CORE PROGRAMS: EMERGENCY DISTRIBUTION; KEIKI (CHILDREN) CAF, BACKPACK PROGRAM, AND THE KUPUNA (SENIORS) PROGRAM. PURCHASED AND DONATED FOODS ARE STORED AT OUR WAREHOUSE LOCATION IN NAWILIWILI, WHERE THEY ARE INVENTORIED AND DIVIDED INTO GROUPS BY TYPE OF FOOD ACCORDING TO OUR FOOD BANK CATEGORIES. KIFB CONTINUES TO SEE A SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN DEMAND FOR FOOD RESOURCES IN OUR COMMUNITY AS FOOD COSTS CONTINUE TO INCREASE ON KAUAI. IN 2023, KIFB PROVIDED 153,714 POUNDS OF FOOD VIA OUR EMERGENCY DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM, SERVING APPROXIMATELY 1200 PERSONS IN NEED. THESE NUMBERS INCLUDE OUR BI-MONTHLY COMMUNITY FOOD DISTRIBUTIONS FROM OUR WAREHOUSE ON EVERY SECOND AND FOURTH WEDNESDAY OF EACH MONTH. ADDITIONALLY, KIFB OPERATES SEVERAL "EVENT" DISTRIBUTIONS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR SUCH AS OUR HOLIDAY DISTRIBUTION IN THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER. KIFB ALSO RESPONDS TO DAILY, ON-DEMAND REQUESTS FOR EMERGENCY AND/OR URGENT FOOD NEEDS FROM OUR COMMUNITY. FOOD DISTRIBUTED WAS VALUED AT: 275,148.00
Expenses $493,634 · Grants $58,845 · Revenue $7,963
-
THE KEIKI CAF PROGRAM SERVED 611 KEIKI A NUTRITIOUS AFTER-SCHOOL SNACK EVERY DAY AT LOCAL SCHOOLS, BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS, THE A+ PROGRAM, AND COUNTY RUN PROGRAMS ISLAND-WIDE. IN 2023, WE DISTRIBUTED: 10,143 POUNDS OF HEALTHY SNACKS TO OUR KEIKI.
Expenses $55,664 · Grants $42,294
-
THE BACKPACK PROGRAM WAS CREATED TO PROVIDE FOOD SECURITY FOR KEIKI OVER WEEKENDS AND SCHOOL/PROGRAM HOLIDAYS, WHEN SCHOOL- OR PROGRAM-PROVIDED MEALS AND SNACKS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. BACKPACKS PROVIDE INGREDIENTS FOR 5 TO 7 EASY-TO-PREPARE MEALS AND SNACKS IN TAKE-HOME PACKAGES. IN 2023, THE BACKPACK PROGRAM PROVIDED 12,414 POUNDS OF FOOD TO 524 KEIKI.
Expenses $33,915 · Grants $26,448
-
THE KUPUNA PROGRAM DELIVERED MONTHLY, FOOD-FILLED PACKAGES TO APPROXIMATELY 211 HOMEBOUND SENIORS IN 2023 WERE ABOUT 22,572 POUNDS OF FOOD. FOODS WERE SELECTED WITH THE UNIQUE HEATH NEEDS OF SENIORS (I.E., LOW-SODIUM, HEART- HEALTHY, LOW-FAT), AS WELL AS TAKING INTO ACCOUNT CULTURAL FOOD PREFERENCES.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
