Mission
TO ADVOCATE ON BEHALF OF THOSE IN NEED OF DECENT SHELTER BY BUILDING AND RENOVATING AFFORDABLE HOUSES.
Activities or mission (Part I)
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILDS AND REHABS HOMES AND SELLS THEM TO LOW-INCOME BUYERS AT NO PROFIT.
-
IN FY24, EIGHT NEW SINGLE-FAMILY HOMES WERE BUILT. THE ORGANIZATION SELLS ITS HOMES AT FAIR MARKET VALUE TO LOW-INCOME FAMILIES AND PROVIDES INTEREST-FREE, 30-YEAR MORTGAGES. A BRUSH WITH KINDNESS (ABWK), AGING IN PLACE (AIP), AND CRITICAL HOME REPAIR (CHR) SERVE AS COMPANION PROGRAMS TO THE ORGANIZATION'S HOME BUILDING AND MORTGAGE LENDING PROGRAMS. THE ABWK AND CHR PROGRAMS PROVIDE INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR REPAIR SERVICES TO PREVENT HOUSES FROM FURTHER DETERIORATING; TO ADDRESS CODE VIOLATIONS, AND TO PREVENT LOW-INCOME FAMILIES FROM BEING DISPLACED. THE AIP PROGRAM MAKES HOME MODIFICATIONS TO MEET THE NEEDS OF LOW-INCOME AGING HOMEOWNERS. EXAMPLES INCLUDE THE INSTALLATION OF ACCESSIBILITY RAMPS, WALK-IN BATHTUBS, HANDRAILS, UPGRADED LIGHTING, AND WIDER DOOR OPENINGS. THESE MODIFICATIONS ALLOW LOW-INCOME SENIORS TO ENTER, EXIT, AND LIVE IN THEIR HOMES MORE SAFELY AND INDEPENDENTLY. IN FY24, THE ORGANIZATION COMPLETED 85 REPAIR AND MODIFICATION PROJECTS.
Expenses $2,719,051

HABITAT OPERATES A RESALE SHOP, CALLED RESTORE, WHERE CLIENTS CAN PURCHASE A VARIETY OF NEW OR GENTLY USED BUILDING MATERIALS AND FURNITURE. MANY OF THE ITEMS SOLD ARE DONATIONS FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
