Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.

The filer's explanations (Part III)

FORM 990, SCHEDULE J, PART I, LINE 1A - FIRST CLASS TRAVEL
UNCOMPENSATED VOLUNTEER LEADERS CONDUCT EXTENSIVE INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL ON BEHALF OF THE ORGANIZATION. THE ROTARY FOUNDATION PROVIDES BUSINESS-CLASS AIRFARE SOLELY FOR THE TRUSTEES AND THE GENERAL SECRETARY. BUSINESS-CLASS TRAVEL IS AVAILABLE IN MOST MARKETS, BUT IF IT IS NOT, FIRST-CLASS OR ECONOMY AIRFARES ARE SUBSTITUTED. THE ROTARY FOUNDATION TRUSTEES CHAIR IS PERMITTED TO USE FIRST-CLASS TRAVEL, ALTHOUGH HE MAY CHOOSE BUSINESS-CLASS OR ECONOMY CLASS.
FORM 990, SCHEDULE J, PART 1, LINE 1A - TRAVEL FOR COMPANIONS
THE ROTARY FOUNDATION PROVIDES FOR SPOUSE TRAVEL FOR SENIOR VOLUNTEERS AND THE GENERAL SECRETARY IF SPOUSE PARTICIPATION ASSISTS THE ORGANIZATION IN ACHIEVING ITS MISSION. THE ROTARIAN AND SPOUSE ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT DOCUMENTATION DETAILING THE ACTIVITIES AND SUPPORTING THE BONA FIDE BUSINESS PURPOSE OF THE TRAVEL. MANAGEMENT REVIEWS THE DOCUMENTATION DURING THE EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENT APPROVAL PROCESS.
FORM 990, SCHEDULE J, PART I LINE 1A - HIGHEST COMPENSATED EMPLOYEES
THE ROTARY FOUNDATION HAS A HIGHEST COMPENSATED EMPLOYEE AT ITS OFFICE IN ZURICH, SWITZERLAND, WHICH IS CURRENTLY UNDISCLOSED DUE TO POTENTIAL INFRINGEMENT OF LOCAL DATA PRIVACY LAWS. SALARIES FOR STAFF AT THE INTERNATIONAL OFFICES ARE ESTABLISHED IN THEIR LOCAL CURRENCY AND TRANSLATED TO US DOLLARS FOR REPORTING PURPOSES, RESULTING IN POTENTIALLY LARGE FLUCTUATIONS IN THE US DOLLAR REPORTABLE EQUIVALENT FOR COMPENSATION.
FORM 990, SCHEDULE J, PART I LINE 7
ROTARY MAINTAINS AN EXECUTIVE COMPENSATION POLICY UNDER WHICH BASE SALARY IS THE PRIMARY METRIC USED TO EVALUATE THE REASONABLENESS' FOR THE PURPOSES OF INTERNAL COMPENSATION REVIEW. CONSISTENT WITH THIS POLICY, BASE SALARY IS BENCHMARKED ANNUALLY AGAINST COMPARABLE POSITIONS AT SIMILARLY SITUATED TAX-EXEMPT ORGANIZATIONS USING INDEPENDENT COMPENSATION DATA. IN THE YEAR REPORTED, CERTAIN MEMBERS OF EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT RECEIVED PERFORMANCE-BASED VARIABLE PAY IN ADDITION TO BASE SALARY. VARIABLE PAY WAS TIED TO PRE-APPROVED ORGANIZATIONAL AND INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE GOALS, INCLUDING PROGRAMMATIC OUTCOMES, FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP, AND STRATEGIC INITIATIVES. THIS PERFORMANCE-BASED PAY IS CONSIDERED SEPARATELY AS CONTINGENT COMPENSATION THAT MAY VARY YEAR-TO-YEAR BASED ON DOCUMENTED RESULTS. THIS IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH STANDARD MARKET PRACTICE AND IS PART OF THE RI BOARD-APPROVED COMPENSATION PHILOSOPHY TO OFFER COMPETITIVE REMUNERATION. EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT COMPENSATION, INCLUDING ANY PERFORMANCE BASED VARIABLE PAY, FOR THE YEAR WAS REVIEWED AGAINST COMPARABILITY DATA AND DETERMINED TO BE REASONABLE AND NOT EXCESSIVE FOR SERVICES RENDERED.

Part I's answers as filed. A line not listed was left unanswered; on lines 1a and 3 that means the box was not checked.
