Activities or mission (Part I)
TO REDUCE BREAST CANCER MORTALITY IN THE WASHINGTON, DC AREA BY PROMOTING ACCESS TO BREAST CANCER SCREENING, DIAGNOSTICS, AND TREATMENT TO ALL WOMEN REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY.
-
BREAST CARE FOR WASHINGTON WAS FOUNDED AS A NON-PROFIT, COMMUNITY-BASED BREAST CANCER SCREENING ORGANIZATION. BREAST CARE FOR WASHINGTON OFFERS ACCESS TO SCREENING AND DIAGNOSTIC MAMMOGRAMS WITH 3D TECHNOLOGY, BREAST ULTRASOUND, PATIENT NAVIGATION, AND CARE COORDINATION FOR ALL PATIENTS REGARDLESS OF THEIR FINANCIAL RESOURCES. SERVICES BEGAN IN 2014, WITH A MOBILE UNIT ADDED IN 2019 TO EXPAND THE SERVICE AREA FOOTPRINT IN THE WASHINGTON DC, MARYLAND, AND NORTHERN VIRGINIA AREA. SINCE 2014, MORE THAN 20,000 PATIENTS HAVE RECEIVED SERVICES FROM BREAST CARE FOR WASHINGTON. CHALLENGES FOLLOWING THE PANDEMIC LEAD TO CHANGES IN LEADERSHIP, WITH THE MEDICAL DIRECTOR ASSUMING INTERIM CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER RESPONSIBILITIES THROUGH 2023. SERVICES CEASED IN NOVEMBER 2023, WITH A FOCUS ON REORGANIZATION AND RECRUITMENT OF PERMANENT LEADERSHIP FOR 2024. AN EXPERIENCED NON-PROFIT LEADER BEGAN HER TENURE IN MARCH 2024, WITH SCREENING SERVICES RESUMING IN LATE APRIL 2024. EXPENSES WERE STRATEGICALLY REDUCED, INCLUDING REDUCTION OF STAFF AND DECOMMISSIONING OF MOBILE SERVICES. NEW STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS WERE DEVELOPED, MOST NOTABLY WITH THE DC PRIMARY CARE ASSOCIATION (PCA) WITH THE INTENTION OF INCREASING REFERRALS. THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUES TO REBUILD WITH RESUMPTION OF DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING AND EXPANDED NAVIGATION IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE DC PCA.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
