Mission
Immigrant Defenders Law Center (ImmDef) is a next-generation social justice law firm that defends our immigrant communities against injustices in the immigration system.
Activities or mission (Part I)
Immigrant Defenders Law Center (ImmDef or Organization) is a next-generation social justice law firm that defends our immigrant communities against injustices in the immigration system. We envision a future where no immigrant will be forced to face an unjust immigration system alone. Our programs are a first step towards the long-term goal of providing universal representation to all immigrants facing deportation.
-
ImmDef is now the largest nonprofit pro bono provider of deportation defense in California with offices in Los Angeles, Riverside, Santa Ana, and San Diego. Our team provides full-scale deportation defense representation and other legal services to approximately 3,000 adults and children in over 10 Southern California counties annually. We defend due process in immigration court by providing holistic legal services to vulnerable populations such as unaccompanied children, separated families, deported veterans, immigrants with mental health disabilities, and detained community members at all stages of their case. We advocate for systemic change in the immigration system through impact litigation and policy advocacy. Our programs include: our Childrens Representation Program, dedicated to representing thousands of child migrants in removal proceedings who would otherwise be forced to face immigration court alone, and providing legal education and individualized consultations to unaccompanied children detained by the U.S. government in local shelters; our Adult Representation Program, committed to providing holistic legal services to separated families, deported veterans, immigrants with mental health disabilities, and detained community members at all stages of their case; our Cross Border Initiative Program, focused on advocating for human rights, providing triage, legal support and representation at the U.S.-Mexico border; and our Litigation and Advocacy Program, devoted to pursuing strategic litigation to benefit immigrants and asylum seekers, engaging in policy advocacy for a more just immigration system, and advocating for local government initiatives that protect our communities and provide a sustainable legal services model that meets local needs.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
