Mission and programs · 2023

Mission

PCCA'S MISSION IS TO BUILD COMMUNITY THROUGH THE ARTS, AND ITS VISION IS TO RE-IMAGINE CREATIVITY IN A RURAL SETTING. WITHIN THIS CONTEXT, PCCA NURTURES THE CREATIVE SPIRIT IN ADULTS AND CHILDREN, SUPPORTS ARTISTS AND CELEBRATES THEIR SUCCESSES, ENHANCES THE LOCAL ECONOMY, ENRICHES THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE WITH ARTS-IN-EDUCATION RESIDENCIES AND BRINGS ARTISTIC AND SOCIAL VITALITY TO CENTRAL PA.

Activities or mission (Part I)

TO BUILD COMMUNITY THROUGH THE ARTS, AND ITS VISION IS TO RE-IMAGINE CREATIVITY IN A RURAL SETTING.

  • THE PCCA GALLERY, ON THE SQUARE IN DOWNTOWN NEWPORT, SHOWCASES THE FINE ART AND CRAFTS OF MORE THAN 150 MEMBER ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE REGION. APPROXIMATELY HALF OUR ARTISTS AND CUSTOMERS HAIL FROM OUTSIDE THE COUNTY. THE GALLERY SPEARHEADS NUMEROUS COMMUNITY INITIATIVES IN COLLABORATION WITH DOWNTOWN MERCHANTS. EACH YEAR THE GALLERY OFFERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS FOR ARTISTS INTERESTED IN IMPROVING THEIR ECONOMIC VIABILITY.

    Expenses $324,515

  • LANDIS HOUSE IS A 5,000 SQUARE FOOT MANSION BEQUEATHED TO THE PCCA BY THE ESTATE OF MARY M. LANDIS IN 2007. AFTER EXTENSIVE RENOVATIONS, THE MANSION NOW HOUSES PCCA'S OFFICES AND ACTS AS A VENUE FOR RECITALS, CLASSES AND EXHIBITIONS OF CONTEMPORARY ART AND ARTIFACTS FROM THE LANDIS COLLECTION.

  • AS A PARTNER WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA COUNCIL ON THE ARTS, PCCA PLACES PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS IN SCHOOL CLASSROOMS IN SEVEN COUNTIES: PERRY, JUNIATA, MIFFLIN, HUNTINGDON, SNYDER, UNION AND NORTHUMBERLAND. THESE HIGH QUALITY, INNOVATIVE ARTS RESIDENCIES ARE IMPLEMENTED OVER SPANS OF 2-15 WEEKS. SOME RESIDENCIES ARE CREATED TO MEET THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF STUDENTS WITHIN A SCHOOL DISTRICT. OTHERS, DESIGNED BY PCCA STAFF, BECOME ELEMENTS OF LARGER COMMUNITY BUILDING INITIATIVES SUCH AS THE QUILT BARN TRAIL AND THE CREATION OF HISTORIC MURALS.

  • THE COUNCIL IS INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY THROUGH MANY OTHER PROGRAMS, CLASSES AND OUTREACH PROJECTS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: WRITER'S GROUPS, KIDS ARTSFEST, SUNDAY ARTS HOUR AND OUTREACH AND EDUCATION PROGRAMS.

    Expenses $3,004

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
