Mission
HELP KITCHEN'S MISSION IS TO END HUNGER WITH NUTRITIOUS FOOD THAT FITS INTO THE BUSY SCHEDULES OF LOW INCOME, FOOD INSECURE FOLKS. SO OFTEN, EMERGENCY FOOD IS OPTIMIZED TO REDUCE COSTS FOR PROVIDERS, INSTEAD OF PRIORITIZING THE NEEDS OF THE BENEFICIARY. MANY INTERVENTIONS REQUIRE PEOPLE TO WAIT IN LONG LINES, PICKUP FOOD THAT MAY NOT MEET THEIR DIETARY AND HOUSEHOLD NEEDS, OR ARE LIMITED TO A SINGLE MEAL. THE EXPERIENCE IS OFTEN UNDIGNIFIED. HELP KITCHEN IS TACKLING THESE PROBLEMS BY CREATING TECH-ENABLED PLATFORMS TO MATCH FOOD INSECURE INDIVIDUALS WITH AVAILABLE RESOURCES.
Activities or mission (Part I)
HELP KITCHEN'S MISSION IS TO END HUNGER WITH NUTRITIOUS FOOD FOR LOW INCOME, FOOD INSECURE FOLKS.
-
IN 2023, HELP KITCHEN OFFERED TWO PRIMARY PRODUCTS TO HELP SUPPORT AND CONNECT THE CHARITABLE FOOD SYSTEM. THE FIRST IS AN ON DEMAND, EMERGENCY SERVICE APP TO HELP PEOPLE WHO ARE FOOD INSECURE FIND FOOD IN REAL TIME. SOMEONE IN NEED CAN ACCESS THIS PROGRAM BY TEXTING "FOOD" TO PANTRY, AND THEN THROUGH A SERIES OF SIMPLE EXCHANGES THEY WOULD BE MATCHED WITH A NEARBY FOOD ACCESS POINT, USUALLY A FOOD PANTRY BUT IN SOME CASES THEY WERE DIRECTED TO HOT MEALS THAT WERE AVAILABLE FOR PICKUP AT RESTAURANTS. FOOD INSECURE INDIVIDUALS CAN ALSO ACCESS THIS PROGRAM THROUGH AN APP (IOS OR ANDROID) OR ON THE WEB IN NINE LANGUAGES. THE SECOND PROGRAM IS AN APP FOR FOOD ACCESS POINTS TO MANAGE THEIR CHECK-IN, COMMUNICATE DIRECTLY WITH THE PEOPLE THEY SERVE, AND HANDLE REPORTING ON THEIR IMPACT. THE MAJORITY OF FUNDS THAT WERE DISTRIBUTED AS PART OF THE HOT MEAL PROGRAM PAID FOR THE COST OF THE MEALS. THE MAJORITY OF FUNDS THAT WERE DISTRIBUTED FOR ALL OTHER PROGRAMS PAID FOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNICATION ACTIVATION, ONBOARDING, AND SUPPORT. THESE PROGRAMS WERE ACTIVE IN A HANDFUL OF GEOGRAPHIES, BUT PRIMARILY NEW YORK CITY AND METRO DENVER.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
