Mission
The mission of Star Island Corporation is to hold and maintain Star Island and such other property as the Corporation may hold or acquire, as a center for religious, educational, and kindred purposes consistent with the principles of the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ.
Activities or mission (Part I)
Operation of a religious and educational conference center on Star Island
-
Since 1915, The Star Island Corporation has operated Star Island as a religious and educational conference center. During 2022, approximately 3,368 individuals attended 51 conferences held during the year. Conferences covered topics from the arts to natural history, from religious education to laity training, and from spirituality to international affairs. The Corporation strives to make these conferences affordable for all, even though room and board revenue covers only approximately 61% of its annual operating costs. Star honors its religious purpose by having a minister of the week present on the island during the main summer conference weeks, having morning and evening chapel services during these weeks, maintaining active status as a related organization of the Unitarian Universalist Association, and engaging in active partnership with Star Island United Church of Christ (a constituent organization), among several other things.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
