Mission and programs · 2024
Primary exempt purpose
The mission of More Than Bootstraps (MTB) is to build a community of first-generation, low-income (FGLI), underrepresented students who empower each other to access and succeed in higher education. MTB promotes college access and success by providing high school students with near-peer mentors (current college students from the community) and financial assistance from their junior year of high school through their college years.
-
Near-peer mentoring program in Passaic, NJ: MTB secured sufficient funding for academic year 2024-2025 to support fifteen (15) college student Leaders (including four former high school Fellows) and thirty-three (33) first-generation high school students (17 juniors and 16 seniors). Two Program Resource Fellows assisted with problem-solving and program retention. Our students are applying to and attending a greater range of schools, recognizing their options and choices amid the opaque world of college financial aid.
