Mission
Detour Company Theatre provides theatre training and performance experiences for adults with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities, giving them authentic opportunities to develop artistry, demonstrate courage and collaboration, experience joy and participate in the sharing of musical theatre with the entire community.
-
Detour's 2024-25 season saw achievements in every one of our programs. Among those achievements were: - The highest number of actors and volunteers involved in Detour productions in our history--approaching 100 unique, individual, on stage participants - Record individual donations ($78,348) - An original adaptation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream including cast-created original music, Shakespearean verse, and on stage narration - $24,901 of in kind contributions - 50% more regular, weekly volunteers than in our previous season Detour is growing and evolving as members of the community come to realize that we serve not just the adults with disabilities who make up our performing body, but the Arizona arts community as a whole. Our adaptive techniques for performance including narration, ASL Interpreting, and live captions enhance the audience experience for everyone--including our neurotypical, nondisabled audience members. The anti-ableist spin put on every one of our shows resonates with all audience members. The wonderful thing about Detour Company Theatre is that everyone can resonate with our shows. At Detour, we invite everyone into our community to collaborate, share, and create theatre:together.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
