Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.

The filer's explanations (Part III)

PART I, LINE 3:
THE ATA LITIGATION CENTER EMPLOYEES ARE PAID BY AN AFFILIATED BUT UNRELATED ORGANIZATION, THE AMERICAN TRUCKING ASSOCIATIONS, INC. (ATA). ATA USES AN OUTSIDE COMPENSATION CONSULTANT TO CONDUCT AN ANNUAL REVIEW OF THE PRESIDENT & CEO'S COMPENSATION. THE PROCESS INCLUDES A REVIEW OF THE CURRENT CASH COMPENSATION (BASE SALARY PLUS INCENTIVE BONUS AND BENEFITS). SECONDLY, THE CONSULTANT CONDUCTS A MARKET ANALYSIS COMPARING THE CEO'S COMPENSATION WITH THE COMPENSATION OF CEO'S OF COMPARABLE TRADE ASSOCIATIONS. THE ATA COMPENSATION COMMITTEE IS A SUBCOMMITTEE OF THE ATA EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE, A SUBCOMMITTEE OF THE ATA BOARD OF DIRECTORS. THE COMPENSATION COMMITTEE CONSIDERS THE RESULTS OF THESE ANALYSES WHEN DETERMINING COMPENSATION LEVELS OF THE CEO. THE SENIOR STAFF'S COMPENSATION IS COMPARED TO COMPENSATION OF COMPARABLE POSITIONS IN A COMPARATOR GROUP OF TRADE ASSOCIATIONS AND REVIEWED BY THE PRESIDENT AND CEO.

Part I's answers as filed. A line not listed was left unanswered; on lines 1a and 3 that means the box was not checked.
