Mission and programs · 2023

Mission

The mission of ViVO Youth Orchestra is to change lives through music. Through nurturing safe relationships, developing mastery in music and building community, ViVO fosters development of life skills and inspires students to believe that everyone has the (Cont'd on Sch O) power to change their life and succeed.

Activities or mission (Part I)

ViVO is a youth development program that helps students from underserved (cont'd on Sch O) communities nurture safe relationships, develop mastery in music, and build community while being empowered to thrive & succeed in life.

  • ViVO Youth Orchestras is an intensive, evidence-based, afterschool program for grades K-12 who attend public schools in the Sonoma Valley region of Sonoma County, California. This year ViVO Youth Orchestras engaged 90 students through energetic, inclusive, culturally competent instrument lessons and music appreciation which helped students 1) build music skills and mastery and 2) develop socio-emotional skills to succeed academically and thrive in life. We offered five levels of learning:(1) Pre-Orchestra: provides K-1 graders foundational music knowledge and basic musical skills using play-based music curriculum; (2) Recorder & Ukulele: engaged students, grades 2-3, in learning basicwind and string instruments while beginning to learn music. (3) Beginning Winds/Strings: engaged students grades 3-4 in learning woodwind, brass, and string instruments with an emphasis on music literacy and ensemble playing. (4) Intermediate Winds/Strings: engaged students grades 5-8 in learning advanced concepts in woodwind, brass, and string instruments with an emphasis on music literacy, ensemble playing, leadership, and performance. (5) High School Chamber Ensemble: engaged high school and college students grades 9-12+ in professional level repertoire, performance opportunities, peer coaching, and composition.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
