Mission and programs · 2022
Mission
ACER is the leading issue-based community organization working to uplift and amplify the African Diaspora to build power for systemic change that advances racial and economic equity in communities.
-
Health Equity: While addressing the lingering impacts of the pandemic continues to be a key issue for the ACER Health Equity team, we have been building a more holistic approach to eliminating health disparities in our community. Taking on health in the Northwest suburbs in a holistic way, we are tackling vaccine access and education, memory loss in the African immigrant population, bicycling and body movement education, serving unhoused individuals, and much more.
Expenses $756,537 · Grants $6,100 · Revenue $512,377
-
Housing Justice: With the ending of the State's Rental Assistance program, the housing landscape in Minnesota has become increasingly unstable. ACER's goal is to guarantee Just Housing for our community members through policy advocacy, community partnership, and resource distribution. ACER's approach to Housing Justice in 2022 focused on building up renter protection communities, successfully advocating for tenant protections at the city level, and convening several housing education events.
Expenses $308,555 · Grants $29,100 · Revenue $143,892
-
Economic and Community Development: The work of ACER's ECD program is to support Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) small and micro-business owners that are the economic backbone of diverse communities in the Northwest suburbs. This goal has been achieved through policy advocacy at the state and local level, education and networking events with community members and business leaders, our continued free technical assistance for small businesses, as well as connecting business owners to training and mentorship programs.
Expenses $256,071 · Grants $4,000 · Revenue $55,438
-
Civic Engagement: With the critical 2022 election accompanying redistricting, it was essential for ACER to engage the community and assist community members in registering and re-registering to vote as well as finding their district. ACER especially focused on the apartment and rental communities which are frequently not the center of voter outreach initiatives. Throughout the year, ACER has focused on voter education and registration through partnerships with community organizations such as Ayada Leads, Common Cause, and others. We look forward to building up our Civic Engagement initiatives and continuing our work in the election off-year.
Expenses $48,360 · Grants $800 · Revenue $20,100

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
