Mission and programs · 2023

Mission

Improving community health through local food access.

  • Crossroads Farmers Market has been making fresh, healthy food more accessible in the Takoma/Langley Crossroads since 2007. The Fresh Checks program, which doubles the value of federal nutrition benefits like SNAP, is based on a simple idea: make fresh fruits and vegetables more affordable, and people will buy them.

    Expenses $449,435 · Revenue $400,792

  • CCFN opened the shared use Takoma Park Silver Spring Community Kitchen to provide an affordable means of production, since most small-scale food business entrepreneurs lack the capital to invest in their own manufacturing facility.

    Expenses $160,542 · Revenue $66,889

  • CCFNs Microenterprise Development Program offers free, bilingual business support to local food entrepreneurs. It features one-on-one technical assistance and monthly virtual workshops on such topics as licensing, recipe development, food costing and pricing, packaging, and marketing.

    Expenses $47,597

  • CCFNs Healthy Eating Program brings culturally appropriate, farm-to-fork programming to students and parents at several Takoma park elementary schools with diverse populations and high Free and Reduced Meals (FARMS) participation, as well as shoppers at Crossroads Farmers Market and other community sites.

    Revenue $6,225

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
