Mission and programs · 2022

Mission

SKC enables nonprofit organizations to focus on their missions by providing integrated expertise in financial management and support services.

  • Direct Services - Results from both national and local nonprofit needs assessment indicate that there continue to be additional needs among nonprofits for financial management, fund development and grant management, strategic planning, and board development. Many KC-area nonprofits find it difficult to meet their operating expenses while performing functions like accounting and financial management or fund development. There are local nonprofits that would not survive without SKC's affordable, high-quality business and development services and supports. In 2022, we served 162 area nonprofits. Support Kansas City's staff professional credentials include an Ed.D, 3 CPA's, payroll specialist, database development expertise, grant writing and strategic planning expertise. Support Kansas City provides these services at below market rates to allow nonprofits to build capacity and sustainability

    Expenses $1,171,328 · Revenue $1,319,917

  • Education - In 2022 the organization continued to focus its educational programming toward organizational support through direct resources and communication which included: Newsletters and direct email communications were sent to contacts educating them on topics relevant to current events. Each communication provided information to help organizations build capacity and provided links to SKC team members who could provide additional support as needed. SKC provided 9 virtual training that were open to the nonprofit community with over 151 attendees. Topics included cyber security, 990 preparation, accountings, database management and board planning. SKC staff met with over 100 agencies one-on-one to provide guidance and resources as they explored ways to build their organizational capacity. SKC continued to assist and educate organizations on best practices and capacity building through presentations to boards and organizational leaders.

  • Community Impact - Initiatives that seek to enhance nonprofit sector skills, organizational effectiveness, and engagement of stakeholders in our community. SKC acts as a backbone organization for the Board Diversity and Inclusion Initiative providing support for boards to become more racially diverse and assist prospective board member in support of board service. This program continued to be built out in 2022. SKC collaborated on a proposal for a nonprofit start up center to provide services and support to new nonprofits with a focus on BIPOC lead organizations. Thinking about how to provide needed support for long term sustainability. SKC also convenes with other nonprofit professionals on a regular basis to discuss collaboration, sector needs and support services for nonprofit organizations. These relationships provide resources for organizations regarding resources and tools for best practices and capacity building.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
