Mission and programs · 2024

Mission

The mission of the Jerusalem Institute of Justice, Inc. is to advance human rights, strengthen democracy, and promote justice by supporting programs that provide legal aid and advocacy to vulnerable populations, public diplomacy and education to counter antisemitism and misinformation, and policy research to drive systemic reform. The organization fulfills this mission primarily by directing grants to the Jerusalem Institute of Justice Ltd., headquartered in Jerusalem, Israel, which implements these programs on the ground.

  • Legal Aid and Human Rights Advocacy. In 2024, JIJ Inc. supported the provision of free legal aid to 2,733 survivors of terrorism, human trafficking, and discrimination, including 40 survivors of human trafficking, 17 survivors of the October 7th massacre, 170 new immigrant families, and 112 refugees from Ukraine, Russia, and Eritrea. Grants to JIJ Ltd. enabled attorneys to represent vulnerable individuals in court, submit petitions to the High Court of Justice, and provide ongoing support to families in crisis.

    Expenses $329,600 · Grants $329,600

  • Public Diplomacy and Education. JIJ leveraged its United Nations consultative status to present forensic evidence and survivor testimony to senior UN officials and diplomats from over 23 countries, securing recognition of the scale and scope of Hamas' atrocities against Israeli children, women, and the elderly. In 2024, JIJ also completed post-production of its 1-hour documentary "Saturday October 7th," featuring the testimonies of seven survivors of the October 7th massacre. The film is available for free screenings on U.S. college and university campuses, promoting awareness and countering denialism. JIJ's internship and education programs trained 33 university students from 16 countries, focused on combatting antisemitism and countering pro-terror agendas. Over the last 20 years, JIJ has hosted more than 400 interns and fellows from 20 countries, equipping them with the tools to advocate for justice, human dignity, and the rule of law.

    Expenses $286,524 · Grants $72,100

  • Research and Policy Development. Through research and policy initiatives, JIJ Inc. supported the preparation of policy briefs, legal petitions, and international reports designed to influence systemic reforms in Israel. In 2024, these efforts included submissions to the United Nations and engagement with legislators to strengthen protections for human trafficking survivors, terror victims, and vulnerable minorities. JIJ's policy work continues to amplify the voices of affected communities and ensure accountability at both national and international levels.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
