Mission and programs · 2024

Mission

TO ADVANCE THE HUMAN AND CIVIL RIGHTS OF IMMIGRANTS BY ENGAGING THEM IN CIVIC PARTICIPATION & ADVOCACY IN ISSUES OF POLITICS AFFECTING IMMIGRANTS IN CALIFORNIA.

  • Issue Advocacy Activities- During the November 5, 2024 general election period, CHIRLA Action Fund conducted voter education and mobilization activities related to ballot measures at the county and state levels. In Los Angeles County, CHIRLA Action Fund supported the passage of Measure A, and at the state level it advocated for Yes on Proposition 5, Yes on Proposition 33, and No on Proposition 36. Outreach activities included canvassing and call center operations conducted across California from August 7 through November 5, 2024 to inform voters about these measures. During the reporting period, CHIRLA Action Fund also continued issue advocacy through its "All in for Registry" campaign, which supports federal legislation (H.R. 1511 and S. 2606) that would provide a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants in the United States. CHIRLA Action Fund conducted public education activities to inform voters and members about the legislation and organized advocacy delegations to Washington, D.C. to meet with members of Congress and their staff. These activities were carried out in collaboration with local and national partners.

    Expenses $630,594

  • Electoral Activities-As part of its electoral organizing activities, CHIRLA Action Fund conducts political analysis of key races in California and candidate research to inform its endorsement process. During the 2024 election cycle, the Civic Engagement team hosted numerous candidate interviews with CHIRLA Action Fund's 501(c)(4) board of directors, members, and staff. Based on this process, CHIRLA Action Fund endorsed 18 candidates across local, state, and federal races, including the presidential race. Of these endorsed candidates, 11 were elected.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
