Mission and programs · 2022

Mission

To increase equitable access to healthful food and strengthen communities by empowering neighbors to share in the harvest and care of city-grown produce.

  • In 2022, we experienced the impact that a heat dome in 2021 on top of a late frost would have on fruit production. While it was a very low harvest year, we spent our time deepening our other programming and continued to embrace the opportunities that working with fruit trees holds at the intersections of food equity, community resilience, and environmental justice. We committed to building on the successes and learning from the challenges of 2021; planning for a robust future event series for in person community building; growing the fee-for-service tree care program to improve harvest and yield of local fruit trees; planning for culturally meaningful fruit tree planting; laying the groundwork for a fruit tree index; and centering equity in all that we do. By the end of 2022, we moved from a staff of 4 to a staff of 6.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
