Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.

The filer's explanations (Part III)

PART I, LINE 1A
THE HEAD OF SCHOOL RECEIVES CERTAIN ADDITIONAL BENEFITS THAT ARE TYPICAL COMPONENTS OF AN EXECUTIVE LEVEL COMPENSATION PACKAGE AMONG INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS. THESE BENEFITS PRIMARILY INCLUDE A HOUSING ALLOWANCE AND AN AMOUNT THAT REPRESENTS ADDITIONAL TUITION REMISSION AND INSURANCE WHICH ARE GROSSED UP TO PROVIDE FOR THE TAX LIABILITY ASSOCIATED WITH THEM. NATIONALLY AND LOCALLY, MANY HEADS OF SCHOOLS ARE PROVIDED A HOME ON CAMPUS, WHEN ONE EXISTS. WHEN ONE DOES NOT EXIST ON CAMPUS, AS IS THE CASE AT COLLEGIATE SCHOOL, IT IS CUSTOMARY TO PROVIDE A HOUSING ALLOWANCE TO THE HEAD OF SCHOOL. THE HOUSING ALLOWANCE IS A TAXABLE BENEFIT AND INCLUDED IN HIS/HER OTHER REPORTABLE COMPENSATION. COMPANION TRAVEL WAS ALSO PROVIDED TO THE HEAD OF SCHOOL THIS YEAR AND THE AMOUNT PAID WAS TREATED AS A TAXABLE BENEFIT. A HOUSING ALLOWANCE AND SPOUSAL TRAVEL ARE NOT PART OF THE INTERIM HEAD OF SCHOOL, WILLIAM PEEBLES' COMPENSATION PACKAGE.
PART I, LINE 3
THE COMPENSATION COMMITTEE REVIEWS THE INDEX (INDEPENDENT DATA EXCHANGE) REPORT ON THE SALARIES AND TOTAL COMPENSATION FOR THE HEAD OF SCHOOL. THE INDEX BENCHMARKING GROUP CONSISTS OF A VARIETY OF JK-12 CO-EDUCATIONAL DAY SCHOOLS ACROSS THE NATION WITH SIMILAR MISSIONS AND SIZE TO COLLEGIATE SCHOOL. THE COMMITTEE ALSO REVIEWS ANY OTHER COMPARISONS THAT MAY BE AVAILABLE AT THAT TIME. IN ADDITION, THE COMPENSATION COMMITTEE ENGAGES PROFESSIONAL SERVICES TO ESTABLISH A REBUTTABLE PRESUMPTION OF REASONABLENESS FOR THE HEAD OF SCHOOL.
PART I, LINES 4A-B
LINE 4A: FORMER HEAD OF SCHOOL, PENNY EVINS, RECEIVED CASH AND IN-KIND PAYMENTS TOTALING $994,572 UPON HER DEPARTURE FROM THE SCHOOL. LINE 4B: THE FOLLOWING INDIVIDUALS PARTICIPATED IN A SUPPLEMENTAL NON-QUALIFIED RETIREMENT PLAN: PENNY EVINS

Part I's answers as filed. A line not listed was left unanswered; on lines 1a and 3 that means the box was not checked.
