Mission
TO PROMOTE AND ACHIEVE GREATER COMMON GROUND IN AMERICA BY REDUCING PARTISAN DIVISION AND GRIDLOCK. OUR MISSION IS TO REVITALIZE PUBLIC AND POLITICAL DISCOURSE BY TEACHING AND PROMOTING CIVICS, CITIZENSHIP AND CIVILITY.
-
OUTREACH & EDUCATION:RENEW AMERICA TOGETHER USES A HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE TO EXPLORE AMERICAN CIVILITY AND PLACE TODAY'S PARTISAN ATMOSPHERE IN PROPER CONTEXT. AMERICAN DEMOCRACY HAS ALWAYS BEEN CONFLICTUAL AND DYNAMIC BY DESIGN-FOUNDED ON THE PRINCIPLE OF E PLURIBUS UNUM ("OUT OF MANY, ONE") AND SUSTAINED BY THE ONGOING COMPETITION OF IDEAS, VALUES, AND PRIORITIES AMONG THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. THIS HISTORY IS BEST UNDERSTOOD THROUGH OVERLAPPING POLITICAL, ECONOMIC, AND INCREASINGLY GLOBAL CYCLES THAT SPAN DECADES.FOR THE PAST CENTURY, THE UNITED STATES HAS MANAGED TO BALANCE ACTION AND REACTION WITH LIMITED ACRIMONY AND LITTLE BLOODSHED, THANKS TO A FUNCTIONING SYSTEM OF CHECKS AND BALANCES OPERATING AT MANY LEVELS. YET THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT HISTORY WILL NOT REPEAT ITSELF, NOR THAT FUTURE CYCLES WILL REMAIN AS STABLE. CONTINUED COMPETITION IS INEVITABLE SO LONG AS OUR GOVERNMENT IS BASED ON A CONSTITUTION THAT SEPARATES POWERS AND ENSURES EACH BRANCH CAN CHECK AND BALANCE THE OTHERS.THE CENTRAL QUESTIONS ARE: ARE OUR INSTITUTIONS HEALTHY ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND THE CHALLENGES AHEAD? IS OUR POPULATION INFORMED, EDUCATED, AND ENGAGED ENOUGH TO PROTECT DEMOCRACY? DO WE SHARE A SUFFICIENT COMMITMENT TO CIVICS, CIVILITY, AND CITIZENSHIP TO ADDRESS OUR DIFFERENCES? AND CAN OUR ELECTORATE SEE THROUGH THE DIVISIVENESS OF MEDIA, SPECIAL INTERESTS, AND PARTISAN POLITICS TO DEMAND GENUINE PROGRESS ON THE MAJOR ISSUES FACING OUR NATION?RENEW AMERICA TOGETHER BRINGS THESE QUESTIONS INTO THE PUBLIC SQUARE THROUGH THREE KEY INITIATIVES:1. THE CIVILITY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (CLI) - A FLAGSHIP, YEAR-LONG PROGRAM THAT EQUIPS COMMUNITY LEADERS WITH COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND PRACTICAL TOOLS TO BRIDGE DIVIDES.2. TOWN HALL AND SMALL-GROUP DIALOGUES - DISCUSSIONS WITH CIVIC, POLITICAL, AND ECONOMIC LEADERS FOCUSED ON REAL-WORLD COLLABORATION.3. WORKSHOPS AND CURRICULA - TEACHING THE SERVE AND TRUST FRAMEWORKS, WHICH PROVIDE CITIZENS WITH ACCESSIBLE TOOLS TO PRACTICE CIVIL DIALOGUE AND COMBAT DISINFORMATION.IN 2024, RENEW AMERICA TOGETHER CREATED TWO NEW CURRICULA-SERVE AND TRUST-FOCUSED ON STRENGTHENING CIVIL DIALOGUE AND MEDIA LITERACY. THESE HALF-DAY PROGRAMS EMPOWER PARTICIPANTS TO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT IN THEIR COMMUNITIES AND ARE NOW USED WITH CLI ALUMNI, NONPROFIT GROUPS, UNIVERSITIES, AND CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS NATIONWIDE. ONGOING EVALUATION ENSURES THAT EACH PROGRAM CONTINUES TO EXPAND ITS REACH AND EFFECTIVENESS.OUR FLAGSHIP CIVILITY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (CLI) BRINGS TOGETHER APPROXIMATELY 30 LEADERS PER COHORT FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY FOR A YEAR OF TRAINING AND DIALOGUE DESIGNED TO FIND COMMON GROUND. PARTICIPANTS REPRESENT DIVERSITY ACROSS AGE, GENDER, RACE, POLITICAL AFFILIATION, GEOGRAPHY, AND OCCUPATION. EACH APPLICANT ARTICULATES HOW THEY WILL BENEFIT FROM PARTICIPATION AND LATER REPORTS ON HOW THE PROGRAM HAS INFLUENCED THEIR WORK AND LIVES.GRADUATES OF THE CLI HAVE APPLIED THEIR LEARNING IN MEASURABLE WAYS-CO-AUTHORING INCLUSIVE WORKPLACE POLICIES, ASSUMING NEW LEADERSHIP ROLES, SPEAKING PUBLICLY ABOUT CIVILITY, WRITING ARTICLES, LAUNCHING PODCASTS, AND EVEN CO-DRAFTING LEGISLATION TO SUPPORT MOTHERS. IN OUR FIRST COHORT, 96.4% OF PARTICIPANTS REPORTED SUCCESSFULLY APPLYING LESSONS FROM THE PROGRAM IN THEIR PROFESSIONAL OR COMMUNITY ROLES.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
