DURING 2023 THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA INCREASED ITS HEALTH PROGRAM BY SIGNICANTLY BROADENING ITS DEFINITION OF THOSE WHO COULD PARTICIPATE IN ITS EXPANDED MEDI-CAL PROGRAM. INITIALLY IT WAS THOUGHT THAT THIS WOULD REDUCE THE PATIENT NEED FOR SERVICES PROVIDED BY CLARAS HOUSE. IN FACT THERE HAS BEEN AN INCREASING NUMBER OF PATIENTS VISITING CLARAS HOUSE BECAUE THOSE NEWLY QUALIFIED FOR STATE PROVIDED MEDICAL SERVICES COULD NOT FIND APPOINTMENTS TO TIMELY ACCESS APPOINTMENTS OR THE ATTENDING CARE PROVIDER DID NOT ALLOW TIME AT APPOINTMENTS TO ADDRESS MEDICAL NEEDS NOT PREVIOUSLY IDENTIFIED. THIS RESULTED IN PATIENTS VISITING CLARAS HOUSE FOR TIMELY SERVICES FOR WHICH THE MEDICAL PROVIDER COULD NOT INCLUDE IN THEIR SCHEDULE. CLARAS HOUSE EXPERIENCED AN INCREASING DEMAND TO PROVIDE TIMELY AND OFTEN UNSCHEDULED MEDICAL CARE THROUGH ITS WALKIN SERVICES AND SERVICES THOUGH TELEPHONE AND VIDEO CONTACT.
