Mission and programs · 2022
Primary exempt purpose
The Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence (RICAGV) is a coalition of organizations and activists who confront gun violence as an urgent public health issue. The RICAGV utilizes the collective power of its membership and grassroots organizing methods to advance programs and policies that will reduce gun violence, resulting in safer, healthier Rhode Island communities.
-
In 2022, RICAGV continued to develop a shared, focused plan to to shift Rhode Island's power structure toward supporting common sense gun violence prevention. In 2022, we helped pass a high capacity magazine ban, increased the age from 18 to 21 to buy guns, and banned long guns in public. The Coalition now includes Giffords; Everytown; Moms Demand Action for Gun Safety; Rhode Island NOW; Guns into Plowshares; One Gun Gone; Thoughts, Prayers, Action; The League of Women Voters; NAACP- Providence; Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence; and Planned Parenthood. Additionally, as systemic racism is intertwined with gun violence, RICAGV has supported and co-sponsored Black Lives Matter events attended by thousands of people.
