Mission and programs · 2024
Mission
The Clifton Houses mission is to continue the legacy of acclaimed poet Lucille Clifton and community activist Fred Clifton by providing mentorship, local and global resource access, training, and development in the creative arts to underrepresented and underserved people of all ages in the Baltimore and surrounding communities, with particular focus on Afrodiasporic, female, and gender non-conforming LGBTQA+ poets, writers, artists, and creative activists.
-
The Clifton House debuted its FY 24 programming season with award winning authors Aaliyah Bilal and Safiya Sinclair, and a full house of eager, multi-generational audience members. Over the course of the year, The Clifton House hosted 14 events and numerous tours within an 8- month active programming period. The organization served 744 guests with 577 of those patrons being physical visitors of the home. The goal of the programming season was to offer a suite of consistent, high-quality programs that were: 1) mission aligned, 2.) increased the visibility of the organization, 3.) augmented the Houses core program areas, and 4.) built meaningful relationships & connections with artists, activists, community members, and potential funders and supporters. The Clifton House was successful in diversifying its events portfolio by offering a robust set of programs that featured knowledge expanding lectures, insightful conversations, musical performances, literary workshops, and an imaginative sculpture and ceramics based family program. Other noteworthy achievements include the expansion of The Clifton House team by two (2) staff positions, supporting four (4) local bookstores and two (2) immigrant family businesses, and launching our newsletter.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
