Mission and programs · 2022

Mission

Youth Rise Texas works to create the conditions for young people to rise from systems of oppression. Our leadership pipeline puts youth at the forefront of healing our communities and winning demands that safeguard or realize rights. That work includes programs that aim to end the systems that criminalize people of color and those who are undocumented.

  • Youth Rise Texas launched the data from our inaugural Youth Participatory Action Research Project. A cohort of 7 youth researchers conducted 508 interviews across the city of Austin to better understand their peers' experiences with policing in schools and mental health. Utilizing the findings from the research the cohort of youth produced an interactive community showcase including a call to action for Austin Independent School District and surrounding independent school districts. Youth Rise Texas also hosted a multi-generational community learning series on policing and mass incarceration. The learning series included listening sessions, popular education, and community circles. Each session engaged between 10-15 community members.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
