Mission and programs · 2024

Primary exempt purpose

The purpose of VHCHE, Corp. is to provide a better physical and emotional health and education to children in underserved communities around the world.

  • 2024 has been another remarkable year for our organization, and we are thrilled to share some of the highlights and accomplishments that your generosity has helped make possible: In Cameroon, we completed three drinking water well projects, providing drinking water to thousands of children and families in the rural villages of Baleveng in the western province, Alakuma, and Big Mankon in the northwestern province. We completed hydrogeological surveys, engineering design, and cost estimates for the next two drinking water projects in the villages of Bangang and Babouantou in the western Cameroon. Projects will begin in December 2024. We continued to engage with local schools to identify opportunities for collaboration and to expand our digital exchange program. This program allows students in our local Springfield community to have a cultural exchange through letters and coordinated Zoom meetings with students in schools in rural Cameroon. Thanks to Nativity Catholic School for supporting our initiative to bring computer literacy to rural students of Cameroon with the significant donation of Chromebooks and microscopes. We gave scholarships to 38 students at Saint Anne school in New Melong, Cameroon. This allowed elementary grade students to remain in school so they can learn and grow. Our third Annual Swim-A-Thon fundraiser at Orange Hunt Pool was a tremendous success! Swimmers raised over $13,000 to support a well project in the rural village of Bangang, Cameroon that will be drilled in February 2025. Construction of the tower will commence in December 2024. This year's highlight was the formation of a Youth Advisory Council that took on the bulk of planning and implementation for the event. We were also gratefully invited to participate in the Arlington Diocese 2024 Mission Cooperative Plan to support our mission work in Cameroon and were assigned Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Alexandria for our appeal. We also benefited from several church vestments and vessels from the Mission Office that we plan to distribute in Cameroon. We provided school supplies, electronics, medical equipment, and vestments to many rural communities in Cameroon, including those affected by the ongoing armed conflict in the English northwestern province.
