Mission and programs · 2023

Mission

The mission of The Rise School of Houston is to provide the highest quality of early education services to children with developmental disabilities and those without disabilities.

Activities or mission (Part I)

The Rise School of Houston provides early childhood intervention services to children ages six months to six years with Down Syndrome and other developmental disabilities as well as children without disabilities.

  • The Rise School provides family-centered services designed to meet the individualized needs of all children and families. The School's goal is to provide a blend of educational and therapy services within the context of a developmentally appropriate curriculum and to prepare children for their next educational environment. The 2023-24 school year was a very successful one for The Rise School of Houston. Our full capacity of 96 students with and without disabilities, ages six months to six years, learned and played together in inclusive classrooms and received therapeutic services in a "push-in" model. See Schedule OOf these students, 66% have a disability and 34% are typically-developing peers. Thanks to the school's vigorous scholarship program (all students receive some discounted tuition, and 75% of students receive additional financial aid), our student body remained diverse: 9% Asian, 22% African-American, 23% Hispanic and 46% White. The School has an affiliation agreement with Texas Children's Hospital to provide a coordinated program to meet the needs of its students. Under the affiliation agreement, Texas Children's Hospital provides utilities, maintenance, housekeeping, security, therapists, and consultation related to the operation of the School without charge.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
