Mission and programs · 2023
Mission
Global Growers Network partners with people from diverse cultures who grow fresh food for their families and for local marketplaces. Together, we build and sustain networks of land, resources, markets, and people in order to create a more equitable food system that is driven by cultural diversity, inclusive economies, and regenerative agriculture practices.
-
For the year ended December 31, 2023, Global Growers Network, Inc. operated the following programs:(1)GGNs Grower Network builds relationships and community among the 200+ diverse growers who are actively growing food for their families and local markets through smallholder plots across metro Atlanta. Growers in GGNs network increase access to and consumption of fresh and culturally relevant foods. They also increase the economic self-sufficiency of their families through cost savings and income generation.(2)GGNs Land Network facilitates access to quality farmland for growers who face barriers to accessing land and capital. GGN manages a network of farm and community garden sites across metro Atlanta in Decatur, Clarkston, Stone Mountain, and Conyers. Through connection to land, GGN increases opportunities for growers to preserve and share important cultural (agricultural) traditions. Through community gardens and farms, the land network is designed to increase cooperation among growers in their production and distribution systems. GGN also works to increase the biodiversity of land managed by GGN.(3)GGNs Resource Network connects growers to agricultural resources for home and commercial production to help them achieve their farm/garden goals, with a focus on organic agriculture techniques and, with commercial growers, on market readiness support. GGN specializes in designing and sharing culturally and linguistically appropriate resources that support international farmers in adapting their agricultural skills to a new culture and climate. GGN also fosters collaborations and coalition building among local partners and stakeholders to create a network of support around GGNs grower network.(4)GGNs Sales Network connects growers to market and enterprise opportunities to support their economic self-sufficiency. GGN supports growers who sell produce through a variety of distribution channels to create real economic opportunities in local and regional food systems.GGNs operations were significantly impacted in April 2019 by a flood of Bamboo Creek Farm that resulted in shutting down the farm operation and a disruption to the sales program. In April 2021, GGN entered into a lease with a purchase option with The Conservation Fund to acquire a 23-acre farm in Rockdale County. In 2023, Global Growers successfully closed its $1.5 million capital campaign to acquire and develop the new property, and operations that were launched in 2022 continued with site improvements, the start up of farm activities for eight farmers, and the piloting of farm experience events on the property.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
