Mission

WE HONOR LIFE THROUGH DONATION.

Activities or mission (Part I)

GIFT OF LIFE MICHIGAN IS THE STATE'S FEDERALLY DESIGNATED ORGAN AND TISSUE RECOVERY ORGANIZATION. AS SUCH, IT ASSISTS DONOR FAMILIES DURING THEIR TIME OF GRIEF AND ACTS AS THE INTERMEDIARY BETWEEN HOSPITALS AND TRANSPLANT CENTERS TO PROVIDE LIFE-SAVING, LIFE-IMPROVING ORGANS AND TISSUES FOR TRANSPLANT. THESE "GIFTS" INCLUDE SUCH THINGS AS KIDNEYS, LIVERS, HEARTS, LUNGS, SKIN, TENDONS AND BONE. IN FACT, A SINGLE ORGAN DONOR CAN SAVE UP TO EIGHT LIVES, WHILE A TISSUE DONOR CAN IMPROVE THE LIVES OF UP TO 75 MORE. GIFT OF LIFE ALSO PROMOTES ORGAN, TISSUE AND EYE DONATION AND MAINTAINS THE MICHIGAN ORGAN DONOR REGISTRY ALONG WITH THE MICHIGAN SECRETARY OF STATE DEPARTMENT. THE CONFIDENTIAL DONOR REGISTRY DOCUMENTS A PERSON'S SELFLESS DESIRE TO SAVE OTHERS AFTER HIS OR HER OWN LIFE HAS ENDED.

  • FACILITATED 463 ORGAN DONORS, WHICH LED TO 1,052 ORGAN TRANSPLANTS, EACH ONE REPRESENTING NEW LIFE FOR THE RECIPIENT. FACILITATED 1,821 TISSUE DONORS, WHOSE GIFTS MAY HELP CANCER AND BURN VICTIMS WITH RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY AND MAY PROVIDE MOBILITY FOR OTHERS WITH ORTHOPEDIC INJURIES. ORGANIZED AND ORCHESTRATED A GATHERING OF DONOR FAMILIES, PAYING TRIBUTE TO THE PREVIOUS YEAR'S ORGAN AND TISSUE DONORS AND THE GIFTS THEY SELFLESSLY GAVE. APPROXIMATELY 800 DONOR FAMILY MEMBERS ATTENDED THE EVENT IN PERSON AND VIRTUALLY. THROUGH ITS VOLUNTEER CORPS, PROVIDED 2,108 SERVICE HOURS FOR PROMOTING DONATION. MORE THAN 236,000 NEW NAMES ADDED TO THE DONOR REGISTRY, BRINGING THE STATEWIDE TOTAL TO NEARLY 4.5 MILLION RESIDENTS REPRESENTING 56% OF THE ADULT POPULATION IN THE STATE. CONDUCTED 750 CRITICAL-CARE IN-SERVICES THAT EDUCATED MORE THAN 15,000 HEALTH CARE INDIVIDUALS ABOUT THE BEST PRACTICES OF ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION. THROUGH ITS IN-HOUSE LABORATORY, PERFORMED OVER 45,000 TESTS ON 630 POTENTIAL DONORS AND 500 OUT-OF-STATE DONORS. THE TESTS ENSURE THAT PEOPLE RECEIVING THE TRANSPLANTS HAVE THE GREATEST CHANCE OF SUCCESS.

    Expenses $86,853,195 · Revenue $99,347,976

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
