  • HEALTH CARE. WCAN our project, Health Care is a Human Right WA, had a legislative victory with the passage of SB 5546. The bill had an immediate impact in our communities by lowering the 100 per month copay for insulin to 35 for patients in private state-regulated plans. SB 5546s passage was achieved by building community power-- members coalition partners signing in support, testifying sending letters to legislators demanding change despite strong industry opposition. WCAN spoke to 30,415 members through the phone door-to-door canvasses on the need for universal health care. Members sent over 8,410 letters calls to action. In 2022 we began to contact our members via text to engage them in our healthcare work. 138 members texted support for the Keep Our Care Act 669 signed in support of universal health care. 23 members met with representatives about our legislative priorities. On the federal level over 500 hand written letters were collected by the field canvass calling on Senators Murray Cantwell to lead the work to establish a Universal Healthcare System.

    Expenses $1,078,218 · Revenue $1,000

  • CIVIC ENGAGEMENT. In 2022 WCAN gathered 904 signatures for local/city initiatives. 397 signatures were gathered for House Our Neighbors to establish a social housing developer and social housing in Seattle and 507 signatures were gathered to raise the minimum wage in Tukwila. The field canvass received commitment from 946 people at the door and 155 via text that they plan to vote and had 861 conversations with voters who offered support for increasing the minimum wage in Tukwila. This was the first year WCAN engaged members to vote via text. 16,352 texts were sent to members over the course of our GOTV work. 2,427 of those were general pledge to vote texts. The other 13,925 were texts to members asking them to vote for our endorsed candidates.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
