Primary exempt purpose

The Asian Pacific Islander Capitol Association (APICA) is a non-partisan, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization comprised of legislative staffers, advocates, and other API professionals based in the State Capitol community of Sacramento, California. The organization seeks to increase and support the representation of Asian Pacific Islander professionals working in the Capitol community.

  • APICA is a non-partisan non-profit organization comprised of legislative staffers, advocates, and other professionals based in the State Capitol of Sacramento, California. We are dedicated to ensuring the success of AANHPI and SWANA identifying members in the Capitol Community. One of our main accomplishments is our summer internship. Our internship provides college students and recent graduates an opportunity to gain a meaningful work experience at the California State Legislature. In collaboration with the California Asian American Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus (AAPILC), we had been able to host four interns in the 2023 year. Interns participated in a 10 week program with a placement in a legislative office. During that time, APICA provided a week-long orientation, professional and skill development sessions, dedicated mentorship, and access to the APICA network of staff, advocates, and elected officials. Since its inception, the internship program has hosted nearly 40 interns. Another major part of APICA, is our fundraising. Sushi Showdown is APICAs annual fundraiser which helps support our diverse programming, including our summer internship program. We were able to secure over $100,000 of donations from over various firms, organizations, and alumni donors. APICA also provides various programming events for the Capitol community, including policy workshops, professional development programs, and meet-and-greets.
