Mission and programs · 2022

Mission

FairVote Minnesota Foundation promotes better democracy through improving the voting system across the state. We provide research and education about the effects our voting system has on the quality of democracy and advocate for Ranked Choice Voting or other systems that promote greater competition, participation, majority rule, and proportional representation.

Activities or mission (Part I)

Provide education, outreach, research and advocacy to build knowledge and awareness about voting methods in public elections and how they may be improved.

  • Education: FairVote Minnesota hosted or tabled at several community and other field events educating voters and elected officials about RCV, including the Minnehaha Art Fair, the League of Minnesota Cities Annual Conference, the Twin Cities Pride Festival, Open Streets East Lake, Bloomington Pride, St. Cloud Pride, League of Women Voters meetings, the Association of Minnesota Counties Conference, and the Minnesota State Fair. FairVote MN's Director of Communications and Public Affairs, Erin Zamoff, gave a TED Talk on RCV at TEDx Edina, and Executive Director Jeanne Massey was invited to present at the National Association of Nonpartisan Reformers (NANR) Summit in San Diego.

    Expenses $182,275

  • Fundraising: We organized several online fundraising campaigns to support our work, and hosted three key events focused on strengthening and protecting our democracy, including a summer Rank Your Wine event with legislative champions, Ranked Choice Voting: Pushing Back Extremism & Protecting Our Rights with special guests Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan Senate Minority Leader Melisa Lopez Franzen, and a year-end event featuring Congressman Dean Phillips, Congresswoman Mary Peltola, Senator-Elect Kelly Morrison, and Representative Cedrick Frazier.

    Expenses $2,550

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those. A Schedule J breakdown is as filed: base pay, bonus, other, deferred compensation and nontaxable benefits from this organization, with any from related organizations beside each, and the filer's own total. It is shown with the Part VII listing of the same name on the same return. The form gives no key between the two, so that pairing is ours, and is marked matched by us.
