Mission

LOVE OF CHRIST COMPELS US TO OFFER HOLISTIC CARE TO CHILDREN IN NEED, AS WE INSTILL IN THEM A SENSE OF HUMAN DIGNITY, ESSENTIAL IN THEIR LIVES. WE HOUSE, FEED, CLOTHE, EDUCATE AND TRAIN THEM, AIMING AT FOSTERING IN THEM THE SELF ESTEEM WHICH ENGENDER THE DIGNITY OF THE HUMAN PERSON. WE ENCOURAGE AND INSTILL IN THEM SELF CONFIDENCE AND SELF-ESTEEM SO THAT THEY CAN COPE WITH THE HARDSHIPS OF LIFE. WE DO THIS WITHOUT HUMILIATION OR DISCRIMINATION TO ANY ORPHANS. AWARE THAT ONLY LOVE AND SELF CONFIDENCE LEAD A CHILD TO SELF DETERMINATION.

Activities or mission (Part I)

TANZANIA ORPHANS UPENDO COMMUNITY (TOUCO) IS AN UMBRELLA NAME FOR ALL THE UPENDO FAMILIES. AN UPENDO FAMILY CONSISTS BETWEEN 6 AND 12 ORPHANS HEADED BY A VOLUNTEER WOMAN LIVING WITH THEM UNDER ONE HOUSEHOLD. VOLUNTEER WOMEN ARE RECRUITED ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS WITHOUT REGULAR WAGES. HOUSING, FOOD, CLOTHING, AND EDUCATION ARE PROVIDED TO EACH UPENDO FAMILY.

  • TOUCO INTENDS TO FACILITATE COMMUNITY ORPHAN CARE CRISIS AWARENESS INTO THE FORMATION OF FAMILIA UPENDO AND UPENDO VILLAGES AS BASIC ALTERNATIVE ORPHAN CARE UNITS TO THE BIOLOGICAL EXTENDED FAMILIES, CURRENTLY OVERWHELMED BY THE MAGNITUDE OF THE ORPHAN CARE CRISIS IN TANZANIA AND AFRICA AT LARGE. THIS TOUCO MODEL CAN BE EASILY ADAPTED BY VILLAGES AND DISTRICTS, REGIONS AND COUNTRIES TO RAISE THEIR ORPHANS IN SAFE AND LOVING ENVIRONMENTS. THE MODEL WEAVES PERTINENT AFRICAN TRADITIONS AND CUSTOMS IN CARING FOR ORPHANS AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN (OVC) WITHIN A BROAD SPECTRUM OF AFRICAN CULTURES. THE MODEL, THOUGH INITIALLY CAPITAL INTENSIVE, MATURES AS INEXPENSIVE AND APPROPRIATE WITHIN THE AFRICAN RURAL CONTEXT.

Compensation is as filed in Part VII: reportable pay from this organization and from related organizations, other compensation, and hours per week. The total, marked calculated, is our sum of the three dollar columns, with a blank column counted as $0; the form itself has no total. On a Form 990-EZ the columns are Part IV's instead, and on a Form 990-PF Part VIII's — compensation, contributions to benefit plans, and expense account — and the total sums those.
